You guys should search the Maintenance Forums here. Lots of excellent info. There are a few members here that work for oil companies under the payroll or as independent contractors, and they all seem to agree that M1 is one of the best synthetics to use. I'll leave the rest of the explanations up to you to search for.

BTW, I switched my oil to synthetic at 60,000 miles with M1 5W30 and I swear I lost one full pint of oil in a week even though there were no oil patches in my garage floor. I know this because I filled with five pints and one day while driving the oil level indicator flashed for a second so I stopped and check it out. The oil level was at the base of the tab and I emptied an entire pint of spare oil to bring it up to the middle-top of the tab. Haven't had a problem since though. BUT, here's the thing. When I bought my first batch of M1 synth, they only had four pints of 5W30 in stock, so I bought one pint of Valvoline 5W30. So I don't know if the brand of oil is attributed to this loss or what....

Question Where's the mobile 1?!

I had the same problem when I did my first change on my SC300. Filled her up with Mobile 1 5w30, checked the next day after work, no loss. Checked a few weeks later, lost about a quart!! The only thing I can think of is the freer flowing synthetic oil made it's way nicely around older, looser piston rings. I'm using Castrol for higher milage engines now, little loss. Think I'll be trying Valvoline Maxlife next.

Hello ~
I am still loosing oil from my Mobil 1 5W-30 switch, I am now running Valvoline Maxlife 5W-30 and still leaking in my 1994 LS400 BUT I have added this stuff I found (GREAT Results) called Auto-RX it cleans and restores the alasticity of the seals ! I have had It in 200 miles and the leak as gottne smaller ! and I am not even half way through the usage procedure. Take a look at the results @ www.bobistheoilguy.com and www.auto-rx.com !! it is worth your time.

What I thought was high oil consumption turned out to be an error by Lexus on the oil capacity for the 93 SC300. A couple of TSB's were issued that I, unfortunately, did not notice. The capacity for the 93-300 is 6 qts. with filter change so be careful. I wonder if later SC300's also require 6 qts.
I just change the oil in my wife's LS400 and used Valvoline Max-life. The capacity for that car is 5.4 qts. with filter change.
