1UZ non VVTI with W58...which diff ratio?
Hy!
I will swap this year my 97 SC400 to manual with a W58 transmission.
I calculated my 3 diff ratios the i have, but which one is the best on street?
On stock: 4.08, 3.769 and the original SC400 4.gear 3.912
after the calculations, i prefer the 3.769. Or is this to long ?
which rearend are used you? some practice informations for me?
Thanks a lot!

I exchanged some PM's with member RedPhoenix on this same issue..... He swapped his NonVVti SC400 and kept his 3.92 rear end. He said that he felt that the 3.76 rear end would have been perfect. I think that he sold his car before making the change. However, you might PM him and ask.
Good luck!

I don't have an SC400 but I have a 4.272 Torsen LSD in my SC300 5-speed. I personally don't feel that is too high at all. The stock 3.92 gearing in your car may feel a little more aggressive once you swap to the W58 but I think it would be a good fit. I tend to come from the school of thinking that causes Mustang 5.0 V8 guys to prefer 3.73 gears or even 4.10 gears (Ford ratios).
4.08 may be a bit high but I've even read some SC400/W58 guys like 4.27.
I'd say 3.769 would be the more docile feel and 3.92 would be a bit sportier. This might be akin to an SC300 non-turbo W58 running the factory 4.08 ratio (docile/sporty feel) versus the 4.27 automatic/Supra non-turbo ratio (slightly more aggressive/willing and revving car... but can easily be driven in a docile manner). Again, I have no 1UZ experience so I can't say too much.
