Default Idle Problem, but no Vaccum Leak.

Hello, I'm Austin. I own a 1992 Lexus SC300 5speed that I bought a 3-4 months ago. I have typical issues with buying a used car but this one is starting to get to me. I KNOW THIS IS A LONG STORY BUT PLEASE READ.

PROBLEM: After buying a "2JZ-GE" intake, for my car, I attempted to install it, being oblivious to the fact that the company sent me the wrong angled hose to mount it, and they didn't include a MAF sensor adapter. Nothing surprising. Anyways, I took the old intake off and attempted to make the intake fit. Got moderately far, and went to crank the engine and realized I didn't have the MAF attached, so the car ran for a minute, then stopped, tried to run it again, same issue.. I realized it was time to package it back up and send it back. So I put all the pieces back together, and now the MAF doesn't seem to be working correctly. I feel really stupid because I know that I made an amateur mistake, and should have not even tried to install it. Now after my car warms up, it will idle normally, then drop to 400 revs, then go back up, then drop. Sometimes, it'll drop to as little as 200 revs. I read on another forum that it could take up to 3 weeks for it to start operating normally again, but it still doesn't seem to be operating correctly. I don't know if I should take it apart and put it back together again to make sure everything is hooked up properly, or leave it as it is, and hope that soon it'll go back to normal. Anyways, school is starting up soon, so if somebody could lead me in the right direction, that would be awesome.

Thanks!

No, it doesn't mount backwards, or upside down. I checked the line, but there seems to be no leaks. Who knows, maybe there is, but none bad enough to notice, and this didn't start happening until I tried to install the intake. And, Did I spray carb cleaner anywhere?, or are you recommending it?

I'm so lost reading this. Just seems like a bunch of words stuck together. Maybe it's because I'm not with my car, or maybe it's because I'm not even sure if this is the same issue.

I figured I'd focus on this issue until I install my new clutch. My original one shattered in philly traffic . Luckily I got home okay!

Like what the OP said in the thread, there are a lot of answers everywhere in the entire CL forums, but all are scattered. He just put everything together in one thread, that may cause hesitation, idle problems and/or gas mpg problems. It lists everything, including a step by step on how to fix and how to determine which is which. Good luck.

I would definitely try resetting the ECU first. Just pull the EFI switch and I personally undo the negative terminal on the battery as well. Leave it for 10 minutes or so.
This sounds somewhat like an IACV issue to me. Check the line going to the IACV make sure it isn't cracked. Also, the car SHOULD run with the maf unplugged, it will run rich, but should still run. 3 weeks is not what they mean with your problem. You have an actual problem it seems. As long as you didn't drop, attempt to clean in any fashion, burn or do something retarded with the MAF, I couldn't see that being the problem. Don't feel dumb, stupid stuff happens with cars. Especially with modifying or attempting to modify cars. Ask me how I know...I know quite well.

No drops, cleans, or burns at all. Was reading maybe i should spray it with carb cleaner, but that seems out of the question. And no, as soon as you disconnect the plastic piece that goes into the maf, it shuts off. they have to be connected apparently. I tried like 3 different ways, but non seemed to keep it running. Might have done something harmful trying to do that and didn't know. As soon as I get back to my car I will reset the ECU. Thanks. EFI is located in the fuse box correct?

Yep, its a round huge fuse inside the hood fuse box, not the cabin fuse box.
Look at the map on the fuse box lid to see which one it is, good luck!
