Default Different MAFs, intake tubes

DISCLAIMER: Coming from the 7MGE community, I have successfully adapted a Mustang 3.5" MAF, a Supra TT MAF, and a speed density map sensor to that engine (daily driven).

Now that I have stepped up to the 2001, the computer is less easy to "trick". I wonder if anyone has attempted to use a different MAF to account for the diameter change of a larger intake pipe.

As luck would have it I tripped over an FJ cruiser TRD intake pipe. I think it would look really nice in our engine bay. In some searching, I noticed the FJ Cruiser has a similar MAF to the 01+ GS/IS. Pending some output tests, this could be a candidate.

If anyone has attempted this, please chime in. Stay tuned!

DATA:

Stock MAF comes in around 1.5V at idle. So we will see what the FJ MAF shows at idle, once I find one.

tread lightly. you have no idea what that engine is going to be running once it goes into open loop and your wide open throttle. if it runs lean than your gonna do some damage. time for a wideband since your doing some experimenting.

If the engine is N/A it would take some seriously wrong AFR and a long *** time at WOT to cause any damage.

But yes a wideband would be the way to go here.

I'd also love to see the results of testing since I'd love to be able to run a 3.5" intake pipe (like the SRT -"super ripoff tech") intake.

I'm about to install the SAFCII I had lying around for years in my 02 GS430. A nice 3.5" pipe to go with it would be great - yeas I realize I can just tune it with the SAFC but a closer match would be nice.

Still on the hunt for an SAFC so I can get it going. FIC would be ideal, but more expensive.
