Default TDC cam adjustment.

Hey guys im a little confused here i am wanting to adjust m cams beacuse my mechanic messed with my cam timing. but im reading here you set your motor to tdc with cyl 1 at the top. when i set my motor to tdc the cams are no where close to the marking points they should be at. and that would cause a bent valve and destroy the motor correct? so my question is it supposed to be on cyl 2? or is my motor just completly outa wack. please respnd asap working on my car as im typing. thanks!

If your timing is off, your valves are bent already.

if its the vvti motor that is. i dont recall the 2j non vvti being an interference motor. rotate the crank twice before you get to tdc and check it again.

Set piston to TDC take off timing belt rotate the cams to correct position and reinstall timing belt. What kind of mechanic would mess up timing?
