mike, are you asking what an interference motor is? or do you know what is and want to know if the GS has that kind of motor? well either way....here's an explanation i found of an interference motor. and i don't know if our motor is that kind.........

Engine timing consists of getting the head timed to the block, this is very important for a couple of reasons. The 16V motor is what is called an interference motor, this means that the in the combustion cycle the pistons travel into the same path as the valves. This leads to very ugly and expensive things should your timing belt break or you do not have this set exactly correct and the valves contact the pistons. This is even more so important if you have a shaved head or decked block as the chance for interference is increased. Most 8Vs by nature of their design are not interference motors with the exception of people running large cams.

hope this helps.....

We have a non-interference motor. This means you can drive your car
until the belt snaps, then just put a new one on and keep on driving.
Have you seen our belts, they are very solid. You can easily go up to
120K miles with no problems. I would change the belt only if I had to
change a water pump or something like that, since you have to remove
the same parts anyways. Just take a look at your belt, if it does not look
worn out, then leave it alone. Good luck, bro.
