So I am trying to remedy a noise which is minor coming from my trans. Sounds to me like its straining to pick up fluid so. Going to have a go and replace the filter and the pan worth of fluid. See if it helps.
Autozone has a filter, and gaskets for $25.99 as a set. Anyone use this set before?
I have not called the dealer yet for a price. But what do you guys think, would autozone filter be good enough. All stock daily.
Also quick, what fluid does this transmission take. It is a 1997, I know they take some kind of special toyota fluid.
King of Kings. Thanks guys. How many quarts should I buy, Im doing the pan drop and refill not a full flush.
not quite sure on the exact amount, someone will chime in. all i remember is that autozone only says 2 quarts on the pan drop and they are completely wrong.
I think there's like 4 something quarts in the pan. 12 quarts was enough for me when I did a full flush, which is strongly recommended if the tranny fluid is already dirty. It's actually written in the owners manual, I have 2 manuals, 1 in the house and 1 in the car, so I don't have to keep going back and forth for it when I need it, LOL
Quick advice; if you use the Autozone filter/gasket, make sure the the gasket don't get in contact with oil or else it's gonna fail soon as you use your SC...
!!DO NOT!! use the fluid that says it's able to be used in place of toyota type of T-IV it does not contain the proper friction modifiers that the sc400 and supra tt transmissions require.
This is not a place worth saving a few bucks as you will pay a lot later.
The noise could be coming from a bad trans mount as the noise is tough to diagnose but just look on ebay for the mount which is usually 50.00 or so. 7 out of ten lexus sc's have a bad trans mount.
