There are 2 different kinds....older style from MK3 Supra and Soarer, or newer tripod style from Chaser and Soarer.
The older version from MK3 requires shifter extension......
The tripod version requires Supra 6 spd tunnel if you car orginally had stock auto or swan neck w58

^^ All of CatManD3W's notes and additionally, there is a difference in the way the older non-tripod R154's mount:
MKIII Supra "early" R154 uses in-line tail housing holes and requires an MKIII R154/W58 transmission mount and a custom crossmember solution:
A) Driftmotion sells a kit to adapt it
B) Cut+extended+welded 1982-85 Celica W58 crossmember
C) CXRacing crossmember for R154 into SC300
1991-1993 Soarer "early" R154 uses the same staggered/diagonal tail housing holes and uses a stock SC300/MKIV W58 transmission mount and your original 5-speed crossmember.
All tripod R154's also use the staggered/diagonal tail housing holes and can use the OEM USDM SC/MKIV mount and crossmember solutions for W58's.
An MKIII Supra R154 also requires (in addition to an MK3 Supra front driveshaft for ALL R154's + the custom crossmember+mount solution for the MKIII gearbox):
--OEM Toyota 1JZ-GTE R154 front bellhousing swap (avoid knockoffs)
--OEM Soarer shifter extension housing + internal arm (but these are now discontinued) OR a custom shifter extension. Driftmotion offers this service. They use a custom jig for accuracy. Requires removing the top housing and removing that internal shift arm and sending them in for the service.
--Marlin Crawler VSS convertor (the MKIII R154 uses a cable drive for the speedo so this converts it for the SC300 VSS body harness plug)
ALL R154's require:
--MKIII Supra Turbo R154 front driveshaft or a Soarer R154 front driveshaft (the latter is very easy to confuse with an SC300 Automatic driveshaft until you see a comparison up close).
--1JZ-GTE R154 flywheel. Can be an OEM steel or a variety of aftermarket flywheels.
--MKIII Supra R154 style clutch kit. Variety of aftermarket types available.
Davidb3232, what year factory 5-speed SC300 do you have?

If you have a 1995 then it would make more sense to get a JDM tripod R154. At least from the standpoint of the center tunnel and sealing boots in your SC already being set up for it to bolt right in.
With a JDM tripod R154 you can also use your stock SC 5-speed transmission crossmember and mount. You would not need a Marlin Crawler VSS convertor (there is already a W58 style VSS on the transmission). You will not need to extend the shifter or swap on a 1JZ bellhousing since those are already equipped on this version of the R154. And the shifter setup is completely different-- a straight shifter much more like the one from the V160 (only without a pull-up for reverse).
You would only need to get an MKIII R154 front driveshaft and a 1JZ-R154 flywheel (plus an MK3 style clutch that is rated for the power level you'll be building for).
If you can find one for a good price, that's the version I'd recommend for your car since it would be the least amount of work required to adapt it.

That sounds great. Thank you for your detailed information.
So, the next question would be where can I find a Jdm tripod 154? What cars did this come in? Also how can I tell the difference between this one and the other 154? The driveshaft, clutch, and flywheel shouldn't be an issue to find.

95 manual you should def go with the tripod R154, its bolt in and they are newer and tend to have less wear.
easiest way to get a clean r154 tripod is with a 1jzvvti still attached to it.
go to ebay, order up a 1jzvvti with a r154 runs about $3500 shipped.
Insert R154 into SC, and sell 1jzvvti to make money back or use the head and make a 1.5jz with the 1j electronics and then you get vvti and a FFIM which is nice.
you can probably just find one not attached to a motor also, but probably will cost a little more in the end for the tripod version.
