SC300 or 400? Manual or automatic? Regardless, I think what your mechanic told you was incorrect.
Also, a better description of what is happening to your car will aid us in attempting to troubleshoot the problem. You may not need to replace your transmission. Is your check engine light on?

I'm sorry I have a 95 sc400, with a automatic transmission. Okay so the past week i felt my transmission slipping so when i was getting ready to change my fluid it went out. I was on the freeway going about 80 when it felt like i went into neutral. so i was able to get out of the street with the momentum i had and the funny thing is when i had to come to a complete stop i was able to take off again but my rpms were super high and it felt like my wheels were stuck. so i shut the car off then turn it on in 10 mins and it worked fine so i jumped on the freeway to get home then the same thing happened at the next exit. I also have trouble when i took off from a dead stop and took off at WOT it would feel like it skips 2nd and jumps. Idk if that helps any?
and im going to get fluid right now and changing it.

Lol the same exact thing happened to me this Sat. I've been planning a manual conversion the past few months, it just got put into implementation mode I guess. Let me know what it turned out to be, could just be a solenoid. When you put it in reverse, does it take a full second before it bites? Mine does. Also, when mine slipped it was because I punched it and it couldn't take the torque of the downshift. When it got worse, I couldn't drive past 40mph, my revs would be at the 5k range limping to the shop. I'm glad I made it and didn't have to pay for towing.

Did you ever find out what was wrong with your transmission? My '92 SC400 did the exact same thing recently. I let it sit for about a week while on vacation. My 90 mile commute the next day went fine until I was 2 miles from home. I made one stop on the way and when I started driving it again, my RPMs would go up but the car wouldn't move. I shut it off and let it cool and it got me a bit further, but finally had to get it towed. I was able to start and move it in/out of the garage this week, but don't feel confident driving it. Any additional info on your issue would be appreciated!
