Resealing w58?
Getting ready to pull the engine n tranny. The w58 on this car has always leaked from between the casings. Are there gaskets between the casings or does it just use liquid gasket maker? If it's just liquid gasket maker, can I just slightly separate the bodies and reseal it?
Looks like someone has been inside the tranny before and resealed it with orange RTV. Tranny shifts great, just stubborn on the 2->1 downshift for the first few shifts on a cold morning.
Any links on a how-to for a rebuild?

You will need to split the cases completely so you can clean the mating surfaces well. Then use the orange toyota fipg to seal it. You can buy a tube of that at the dealer or at driftmotion.com.
Here is a link to the manual that explains the process of opening the trans up. This includes both W58 and R154 info:

Yeah I don't know where people get that. If it wasn't syncro'd it would grind, or engage with a "CLANG!" like a dog box since its constant mesh. 1st is stubborn because its such a low ratio that the syncro can't do its job until everything else has slowed down enough for it to keep up.
