Stock exhaust piping size
Hey guys, I'm looking to replace my catalytic converter on my stock exhaust piping because it has gone bad. I am just trying to figure out how big in diameter the stock exhaust piping is so I know what size the inlet/outlet on the new catalytic converter should be. I searched for this and could not find it. Can someone help? Thanks.

just take it to your exhaust shop, and tell them you want to put in an aftermarket cat. they will measure it for you, cause if you just guestimate they may or may not use your part, or even worse they will do some bad stuff to make the wrong part fit.

I have a 1994 SC300 2JZ-GE. I was looking at just getting a universal Magnaflow catalytic converter that matches my exhaust piping diameter size to replace the stock cat. You guys don't know what the stock piping diameter is?

I just can't believe that no one on this forum knows the exact stock piping diameter size of the SC300 exhaust. Have you people not changed your stock exhausts to aftermarket lol? You people must know how big the piping is if most of you have replaced your stock exhausts with aftermarket ones.

if you guys actually searched hard enough all the info is right there at your own fingertips...use planetsoarer/intellexual.net, those should be the bible you read when you have an SC.
from planetsoarer.
When I replaced my cats this I disassembled the exhaust for a bit of flow testing. The standard 1991 V8 exhaust on my car pulls apart in four main sections;
1. Dual 2.5 inch diam. cats (only 10 inches long).
Mass = 3.1 kg each
2. Dual engine pipes going into shared resonator. Engine pipes reduce from 2.5 to 2 inch diameter, then combine into single 2.5 inch diameter pipe.
Mass = 7.9 kg
3. Middle mufflers. 2.5 inch diameter single pipe splits into dual 1.75 inch diameter pipes. Is crushed down to 1.5 inches to clear rear suspension.
Mass = 9.5 kg
4. Rear mufflers. Pipe diameter = 2 inches.
Mass = 6.1 kg each

He has a SC300. The information below is for the SC400.

the midpipe and back is about 2.25". the midpipe piping (under the heatshield) is actually oval so if you are talking about changing the sub cat in a DIY fashion then good luck. you will need a pipe expander to expand it into a circular pipe at the least.
the main cat is completely different. so I wouldn't ball park it at 2.25" just because the rest of the exhaust is 2.25". I have one laying in my storage I could measure, but you should probably just stick your head under there and measure it yourself to be sure. I am pretty sure it is larger than the rest of the exhaust system (as in larger than 2.25") so you have been warned.
