Default Whistling "cricket" noise when clutch pedal is released

Hi,

A new noise just started the other day. When the cluth pedal is up (not pressed down) a high pitched clicking noise similar to the sound a cricket makes is heard. It is not very quiet or loud but would be noticeable by a stopped car in the next lane for example. It appears to be coming from below the car, near the flywheel area.

The sound frequency increases with speed so it seems to be something rotational.

I can make it stop by barely touching the clutch just past the free play zone (friction point?). When I release the clutch again, the sound slowly returns from quiet to loud.

Thank you for any input,

its your throw out bearing arm, the pivot point needs to be lubed. just pull your dust boot off by your clutch fork, and look inside with a flash light. just get a brush with some grease and lube the ball which the clutch fork pivots on.

Is that in the center console gear selector under the leather cover?

Darn, I don't have the means to do that. And I'm sure a shop will charge too much just to grease it. Blah.

Thanks for the info all

you DO NOT have to drop the trans to do it, just get a long brush with grease on the end put it through the shift fork dust boot and apply the lube on the pivot. looks like this
