Reverse Lockout on Stock 5 Speed?
Hi guys,
My other car is a 6 speed and I have been driving it for 5 years by itself.
I recently got a manual sc300 as a daily driver and I'm having a hard time adjusting to the 5 speed. What I mean is that I keep trying to put it where 6th gear would be and that is reverse on this car.
Now I'll feel a slight grind while the clutch is depressed and realize what I am doing before going into the gear. But I'm wondering is there a reverse lockout at a certain speed? And there really should be that scares the crap out of me if not. I know it's my fault and I'll adjust but sometimes when you arent paying attention and used to it the other way for 5 years accidents happen. Im not only worried about the trans/engine but the accident it would cause at highway speeds.
Thanks

in the 5 spd you cannot go from 5th directly down into reverse. it has a lockout in that direction only!!
if you go from 5th back to the center neutral position, then you can go over right and into reverse despite whatever speed you are acatually going (it will be very tough and grind).
It is a safety that keeps you from powershifting into reverse from 5th in case you forget or don't realize. its pretty neat stuff. you should be OK for the most part.
