Default Gear vs Speed

Hello, first post. I recently got a 2018 IS-350 F-Sport. I'm sure there is a chart already posted on gear vs speed (e.g. 1st = 7 mph) around, but I'm having trouble finding it. Plus, I was not sure if there would be changes due to the revised tuning for the 2GR-FKS engine.

Never saw a chart like this, this wouldn't make sense considering there is a huge overlap between gears. What you can find however are the gear ratios for both of these transmissions - either 6 or 8 speed. There is at least a very nice highly technical white paper on the 8-speed.

To clarify, I meant minimum speed for each gear. When I had an FRS, I think the owners manual listed this. The overlap has been what I have been paying attention to when in the gear view on the speedo screen. I've been surprised when I'm only at 17 mph and already in 4th gear in auto mode.

Yes, probably can happen, specially when idling and going slightly downhill, I think I saw 40 mph in the 8-th gear on flat surface. ECO mode may enhance the effect. Information speed vs. gear is of little value to the customer hence I doubt you will find it anywhere. Even technical articles devoted to transmission don’t have this info.

LOL I know what you mean. I’ll be going super slow and my car will be in like 4th or 5th gear and I’m like WHAT how is this possible but must be the gear ratios.

Doesn't really matter. The transmission wont let you shift if the speed is too low for that gear. And if you go below that threshold, it'll automatically downshift for you (even in M mode).

5th gear =20mph and 6th gear by 24mph. I think I've seen 8th at around 40mph as well. I was pretty shocked by this but i like it. Just dont like that I cant get 60mph in 2nd gear (a big factor in our slower 0-60 times I'd imagine).

I haven't seen a chart you're looking for.

Yeah I am not worried about it. Obviously the transmission was set up this way and I also like it. What I don’t like is that sometimes I want it to get to 8th gear when I’m cruising at like 45 to 55 and for some reason the car thinks I am about to accelerate or something so it stays in 6th or 7th and in order to get it to 8th I have to accelerate a little then it will shift.

I find it logical, the car is trying to reduce number of unnecessary shifts.

Maybe maybe not. It could just be stupid transmission software.

No, nothing “stupid” about this software, pure logic.

That’s subjective.

I dont always like it either BUT it's usually predictable at least when I'm in normal mode. Sport mode I dont use for long periods of time partly because I find it much less predictable. It will drag out 4th, 5th, or 6th way too long for me. Just because I launched quickly or came roaring out of a corner it thinks I want to go the following 500ft stuck at 4k or even 5500rpm without shifting.

Does this happen in Normal mode? For me it only behaves like that in Sport - though mine has the 6-speed. In normal, it only ever does that if I am going downhill, I think to create some mild engine braking.

Yeah that’s in normal mode. I could understand if I was in S mode but sometimes it happens in normal mode and idk why I really think the computer sometimes tries to guess what I’m going to do. Honestly none of this is a big deal to me it was just an observation; overall I find the transmission pretty smooth and the shifts are extremely fast for an automatic. BTW does anyone have a weird issue with 5th gear when the car is cold? For some reason when the car is cold and I’m slowing down and the transmission downshifts to 5th it’s a rough shift it goes away once the car is warmed up a little.
