Default Best performance mod(s) for $1000?

Hey guys,

I figured I'd make this thread since i just got my tax return and everything. I was looking to see what performance mods would be best worth the $1000 I have to spend. Thanks!

Its a 93 SC400 by the way.

Depends on what your goals are with the car.

Going to stay NA or go turbo?

If NA.
There are some decent OBX header on ebay for around 300 with the 2.5mid pipe. Match it up with a decent catback exhaust and do your own BFI and drop in K&N filter and call it a day.

If turbo.
You're going to need a alot more than $1000

save the $1000 and put it toward a good turbo setup.

full exhaust (including headers), it'll be darn close to your budget though

i would think a 5speed conversion would cost much more than 1k? I know my 6speed swap cost well over that...

That's cuz a V160 is a three thousand dollar transmission by itself, generally. I'm sure you know that though.

Pick up a used W58 on Craigs for a hundred bucks, get Jake's adapter stuff, MkIII clutch parts, a stockish clutch and either a bastardized custom driveshaft or a used 5spd one and you could definitely be in a swap for a grand. That's assuming you do your own labor (as any enthusiast should).

Maintenance first.

Then exhaust, intake, maybe nitrous if you do it right.
