So far I have $8 in square tubing, $3 in 1"x0.5" flat steel, and $40 to my welder. I added 2.5" to the length because i figured that's about where the soarer shifter was. I measured the metal tubing, then cut it in my vise with a hacksaw.

Guys, this was incredibly easy to do and for the most part, makes my original post seem useless. lol

This is great news. My W58 seems like it's getting ready to take a dump on me at 187K. So I was gonna build a R154. This is great cause I thought all hope was lost. Hurray for a friends down under.

Also how much would your welder charge to replicate this?

Thank you. The square is aluminum as I believe the swan neck is. I can talk to my welder but that still leaves you the control lever inside.

I extended my control lever by 1. putting an oil soaked rag in the tail housing to catch metal shavings 2. sawzalled it off while a friend held a shop vac to catch metal shavings 3. cut a 2.5" piece of my 1"x0.5" flat iron tube 4. welded the eye piece to the existing part in the tail housing. BTW before I get flamed, only three tiny metal shavings made it into the tail housing and were shop vac'd up.
