Default Steering Rack Replacement Need help. DUI

I have searched for a few hours and came up emtpy handed. I am working on my 94 SC400 and plan to replace the rack and pinion. So far I have searched and looked in the OEM repair manual and nothing is descriptive enough. I bought a reman. oem rack from Lexus.

Can anyone provide step by step directions on the best method to remove the rack?

I know I have to remove the outer tie end rods, the passenger side bracket and the two driver's side bolts, the two power steering lines, and disconnect the rack from the intermediate shaft.

But, it looks pretty tight as far as accessing the steering lines that connect to the rack. Should I loosen the rack a little to gain more access? I just need a little direction from someone who has done this before.

I have replaced timing belt on this car so the rack and pinion should be cake. This is my daily driver so I don't really have too much time to be under there trying to figure out the best way to remove it. Thanks in advance.

I think you're looking for DIY, not DUI lol

I don't remember if they have detailed instructions, but you can always check Planetsoarer

first d/c the arms on both sides crank the wheel all the way to one side then d/c the p/s lines from the rack d/c the electrical connector then take the 12 mm bolt that holds the rack to the steering column (its either 10 or a 12 mm bolt can't remember...then take the bolts holding the rack in place its cake walk

I have started to remove the rack. So far I have removed the tie rod ends and started disconnecting the p.s. lines from the rack. Will post updates soon, just getting started...

Now I have removed the lines, removed all the mounting bolts that hold the rack on and that 12mm bolt that connects the rack to the shaft. The only problem now is the rack wont separate from the shaft. This is very frustrating and is causing me to spend alot of time trying to remove the rack. The 12mm bolt is completely removed and this damn thing I guess is seized in place. So right now I'm at a stand still....

Yes I remember reading over that post. I was looking for something with more detailed step by step methods. I will post something with more detail when I have time. I installed the oem lexus rebuilt rack and it was defective and leaking so now I had to put the old rack back on and send the "new" rebuilt unit back to Lexus. Fun...
