Auto to Manual Problem
So...JspecSC3, breed, and myself underwent swapping out the auto on my car into a 5 spd.
We encountered a problem when trying to bolt on the manual tranny today. Seems like the flywheel is too offset from the block. The teeth on the flywheel will not engage with the starter... I have a 97 and the swap is from a 95. ( https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=317312 ), everything is suppose to bolt up directly...but we seem to be having a problem here... I didn't bring my camera with me today so I don't have and pics of the flywheel, but I'll try and get some up tomorrow.
Make shift pictures for now...but basically the first pic is what mine looks like, and the 2nd one is less receded in the middle parts. I'm confused as to what it's suppose to be...and a bit pissed off cause don't have a car to drive now...
Went and got picture of flywheel today:
Auto Left, one i got with swap on right
Pic taken from yahoo...

the starter is about 1cm off from the flywheel...not engaging that picture there is an MR2, im just showing using them as a general reference until I get pictures of my own.

i just went out and checked my stock 5spd flywheel and it looks just like the one pictured, once the starter gets power the little gear will come out and engage the flywheel. Just pull on the little gear towards the flywheel and you will see what i mean, unless you already know this and when it is extended outward it is still too short.

Did you forget to remove the metal spacer between the flywheel and the crank?
yea, CCC-TT is right about the starter gear sticking out a bit when u turn the key to grab the teeth on the ring gear.
Good luck, keep us posted. 92-97 5spd flywheels should be the same, since the crank and tranny bolted up the same way. I'm guessing the metal spacer wasn't removed. Hopefully it's that easy and inexpensive of a fix

I don't think you need one; the starter pops out to hit the ring gear when it spins up, allowing it to turn the motor, but doesn't run continuously on the gear when the motor is running. My FW looks the same, from what I can tell by your pics.
