Default Help!! My car is dying

On my way home from work the car was fine and then all of a sudden the car just revs. doesn't move at all?!? Pulled off to the side and parked it. Came back about 3 hours later, started the car and it drove fine. wth? Now I went out to try if it would drive and it's DEAD AGIAN!

Could it be the transmission??

By the way the car is a 93 SC400. with about 160k on it.

Thanks for the info in advance.

You need to be a little more specific.

The car just revs wen you put it on drive? When exactly does it rev?

are you sure it's actually going in to gear?

sounds either like an internal trans issue or a shift linkage issue...

will it roll at all with it in neutral or drive, or is it stuck like it is in park? if so, linkage...

have you checked the trans fluid level... if something happend and you lost all or a good portion of your trans fluid (drain plug came out???), then the car won't move then either...

Something is wrong with the transmission: clearly. Cody (Mitsuguy) seemed to offer some good advice as to a basic diagnostic process.

It could be a number of things, but it is almost certainly something related to the transmisson (tc, linkage, gears worn to a pulp, etc). In all likelihood, your car is far from dead. You may just need a new trans.

It should be in gear because the car rolls alittle bit. like you can feel the car wanting to drive but it just doesn't go. I'm changing out the transmission oil right now. Hopefully this is gonna help it.

Hopefully it just has something to do with the transmission oil. How much do you a new trans would cost?

a lot...

even a rebuilt one would not be cheap...

I would say your best bet if it is indeed an internal trans issue would be to source a used one somewhere... as infrequently as these die, it shouldn't be hard to get a good one that will last a few miles...

Question Problem solved yet?

Just curious --- did you ever get your transmission problem solved? Mine has just started to get a little slow going into drive in the morning. Once in gear, it never has any problems. I'm just worried that at 206K miles, the transmission may be getting tired. Fluid level is good and has been changed at least 3 times from what I can remember. But that's still a lot of miles. I may be looking into a new car soon ...

This just happened to me... 93 SC400 w/160K miles... The car will slowly accelerate until it shifts into second gear and then it "catches"... The inside of the car around the transmission gets REALLY hot and the car begins to smoke..
