Default Harmonic Balancer

I had my motor mounts replaced a couple of days ago, and when I picked up my car had a loud screeching noise coming from the engine bay. I turned around and took the car back, where my repair guy informed me that my harmonic balancer was toast! I am pretty p.o.'ed already that this part "mysteriously" ceased functioning when he took my engine out, but that's another story Anyways, I am looking for a new (or used but in good condition) harmonic balancer because he has told us that the part will cost us 300 dollars, and I cannot believe it would be so costly. Any ideas on how I can locate one? BTW, I kind of need it ASAP! Thanks!

It's a common with 2JZ motors and it's just part of general mainatainance, I would say bite the bullet and get the new one from Toyota/Lexus or go with an aftermarket one from boost logic or one of the other Supra Vendors.

Those Harmonic Balancers from Boost Logic, Titan, etc. all cost more than a factory one.

I would highly suggest replacing yours with an OEM harmonic balancer from Lexus or Toyota. You'll thank me 10+ years down the road. Also this problem does occur quite often with the SC300. The rubber on those start falling apart after a while from all the heat and beating those things take. My brother and I both had this problem. I, unfortunately, had to figure it out the hard way when it all fell apart on the highway. Good luck!

Replacing the crank pulley is not easy; consequently, the labor will be expensive, too. Just FYI...

You might as well have them change the timing belt while the pulley is off.

well, FYI, I changed my own crank pulley before. It was an one hour job. Crank pulley has nothing to do with timing belt. But changing timing belt does require removal of crank pulley. I think I have my OEM crank pulley if you are looking for one.

I just changed mine like 1500 miles ago, I really wish I'd done the timing belt at that point. Guess I get to take it back off again sometime soon.
