I would search, but I don't know what search terms to use.

When I first shift the car into drive, it literally clunks into the drive, and the whole car jerks a bit. It's not to bad shifting into reverse, and it's smooth going back into park. While in motion it shifts into gears smoothly.

Is this normal for a vehicle this old, or is there something I can do to fix it and make it smooth again?

can someone at least tell me if there 92 does the same thing?

My '92 does the same thing, except it shifts hard through the gears as well.
