So how do you tighten the crank pulley bolt without the Lexus tool?
I'm wrapping up on the timing belt on my 92 SC300 and I've hit a snag. The breaker bar against the ground trick worked great for breaking it loose, but how do you guys tighten the crank pulley bolt back up to 240ft/lbs without buying the tool from Lexus?
Thanks in advance.

5spd. I tightened it as much as I could then attacked it with the impact. It's still not 239ft/lbs but its pretty friggin tight. Do I need to take it to the dealer and have them tighten with the SST or should that be enough.

I used a torque wrench but once it gets to about 90ft/lbs it just starts turning the motor over. Even with the car in gear with someone applying the brakes it still won't tighten anymore.

engage the flywheel
I'm doing the same work on my car which is an auto so I'm not sure about the 5-speed but there should be an access cover made of black rubber in between the oil pan and the transmission. It's just above the black cross member. Pull it off and the flywheel is right there (which is connected to the crank).
Here is the post I made about how to take the bolt off, but it will work to tighten it too.
Through the access hole between the oil pan and the transmission, stick a bar ( I used a cro bar but any long straight prying device would work) into any round hole in the flywheel and prop it against the driver's side edge of the access hole. Have another person gradually turn the crank bolt with a big breaker bar til it engages, then it pops off easliy. Once I held the flywheel even my girlfriend managed to loosen the crank bolt herself with a 2 foot breaker bar. The crank bolt is tightened to 239 ft/lbs.
I dont recommend using the starter method. It's dumb.
