Default Best exhaust for the SC400?

I want to know what exhaust system you guys think sound the best on a SC400. Not loud, no resonance, just a nice sound with good looking tips. I like the look of the system on ummagwad's SC, anyone know what kind it is?

Thanks,

SW

Hey man,

Firstly - u have too many cars so I need you to donate at least one of them to me!!!

As for exhausts - this has been discussed countless times. Most people, myself included have had X pipes made, then removed all resonators. This provided me with the exact sound I wanted and allowed me to keep m stock mufflers.

Alternatively people are using Magnaflows, Borla's and I think a couple of people have the JIC exhaust.

To each his own on this one as all tastes are different.

PS - I'll take the Viper!!

SW I would go with dual magnaflow 14829's, if you're on a budget. But if you've got more than enough, go with the JIC bullet, or Blitz Nur Spec. All of these sound great. Watch out for cops when ur resonators are removed

SW and "on a budget" don't belong in the same sentence.

You should check out the Trust/Greddy mufflers AWJ has on his car.
I think they look pretty sweet and I'm sure they sound decent as well.

Cheers,
~Alan

Good info guys....

I kind of miss the sound of my old corvette with side pipes, any way to get the big block sound from the SC400 at idle?

Dx3.....any more detailed instructions on your mods?

Thanks

I think Jim Meader(sp?) figured out a way.
Kinda costly though.

Just removing the section with a single pipe, and replacing it with two, and an X, or crossover will do just what you said you wanted, as for tips, you could have your own custom-made in stainless for the $ you save.

SW

I have a 98 SC400 and I wanted the same thing you are looking for and achieved it by removing the stock center resonator and the forward 2 mufflers. I know 96 has a single pipe that splits into 2 but the same could be achieved easily. I replaced the center section after the factory cats with 2.25 or 2.5 inch pipe it was the same diameter as factory and I had a h-pipe added in towards the front, closer to the cats instead of an x-pipe. I pulled the factory mufflers down and painted them with VHT hi temp black paint and retained the stock tips. I now have a pair of factory tips from a nissan 350z which I have yet to install but I think they will look nice. As for sound its great inside the car it sounds almost stock absolutely no resonance hell my girlfriend doesn't even notice the difference. When the windows are open and you are accelerating you can here the throatier tone which sounds really good to me not too loud and doesn't attract any unwanted attention. I have links to 2 threads with a 1998 SC400 with almost the same exhaust I have.
