alright ive searched some more and got a better understanding of everything
also i want to be able to pass ny emission tests, or be able to put parts back on easily to do so
im am going to be purchasing this x-pipe
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33633
this would take the place of the center resonator correct?
what else can i remove or not remove to acheive a powerful deep sound staying ny legal
im confused

if you want loud and throaty... get rid of your resonators and replace your cat with a test pipe... 2.75 inch diameter piping is about as big as you want to go for NA, about any straight through muffler will do and your set.
if you wanna go a bit louder... ditch the second exhaust and just go single, single pipe
when emissions comes... swap out the test pipe for the CAT

I've got a set of 14829s.
In the shop I told them to change the mufflers and replace the resonators with straight pipes.
(The resonators are the cans located near the rear axle)
I'm in California, so no shop here ever touches the CATS.
If I were to get caught, both I and the shop get a hefty fine.
Something to note: When they were done and I first started the car, I was pretty upset.
The sound barely changed.
Now (6 months later) the mufflers have "broken in" quite a bit and are now a nice deep, not too loud tone.
This happens because the mufflers are filled with fiberglass, which needs some high-temp treatment before the muffler settles into it's regular tone.
Basically, all I'm saying is don't be surprised when you leave the shop sounding almost the same way you came in. In a few weeks you'll start to notice the difference.
Good luck.

P.S. I'm not sure an X pipe would be very usefull since our exhaust isn't a true dual.
It goes from 6-2-1-2
Lemme try to demonstrate:
TRUE DUAL SYSTEM
_______'''________E (Each - in the E goes to a cylinder)
_______X________E
SC300 SYSTEM
____''''''''''''''''''''''''______E
____\______/______E
EDIT: Blah.....this forum does not reproduce spaces. Ignore the '. They're just there instead of spaces.

Tommy,
An X-pipe on an SC300 won't do you any good, as you're not running twin pipes. Remember, the pipes only split at the Y-section after the midpipe. Only V8's can use the X-pipe. Also remember that you won't need anything bigger than 3" at the MAXIMUM (I've got 3" piping on my Soarer 2.5GT and it's too drony, gonna get the piping changed to 2.5" or 2.75" now ), sounds good when you're cruising or if you wanna disturb the peace but other than that it gets a tad bit annoying (especially say, 4am in the morning after a night out hahahaha )
