I am wanting to get an RC car for my free time. Since I have a lot of it now. Im still working, but I am also trying to save some money. And I am getting tired of playing the Xbox360. I need to get outside and do some outside activities.

So if you know of a couple of stores up in this neighborhood. Please post them up.

Dude, I JUST sold a really nice nitro RC car over Craigslist the other day for a really good price. Dang. Anyways, I buy online at http://www.towerhobbies.com/ If you're looking for a store then there's always Hobby Town USA in Redmond and another by South Center.

 

What is nitro?

Im looking for something gas powered and is 1/10th scale to big?

 

nitro is a kind of gas. you use for rc cars.
they only make about 3 gasoline powered rc cars and there about 1/5 scale.
so its eather nitro or battery powered.
if your going to go with nitro get one that has electric start.
i got a 1/8 nitro truck it doesn't have electric start and its just a pain.

 

oh and 1/10 is about the perfect size.

If you're new to the RC car thing I would suggest starting off with an Electric. Nitros/gas powered RC cars are pretty temperamental and need constant repairs after a while. Electrics are a lot of fun and if you're into the whole drifting thing they are the way to go for sure. One thing about electrics is that once you start modding them, they can cost A LOT! I've got about $1,500 into one of mine right now. You can pick up a pretty nice starter kit for about $300ish, upgrade the motor, put in all ball bearings, and you'll be in it around $400-$450, but it will be a fast car. Batteries are another good "mod" you can do to the electrics.

I did a search on the brand I typically go for. I would consider Tamiya the Toyota of the RC car world. Not too expensive, tough, reliable, tons of parts. Here are the results:

Well I have a couple Tamiya's, the one I sold is an HPI, I also am a big fan of Traxxas and Team Losi. For road/drift RC cars I would get a Tamiya, for buggies get a Team Losi, and for off-road I would get Traxxas.

 

just browsed over this thread alil but but i have an hpi super nitro rs4, its got the 350z body... i don't use it anymore if you are interested i will let it go for cheap its larger than the 1:10 scale i will give you all the stuff glow plug starter fuel filler ect.. i have some extra wheels and such pm me.

B&I in tacoma if they are still around. Galaxy hobby in Lynnwood but the young kid is a duesch that thinks he knows everything. The guys at both of the "rc hobby" stores are super cool and they have the best prices on the kits. One in covington and one in woodinville.

Ive been playing with rc cars for damn near 28yrs now. Ive had so many I cant see straight. Cars,Trucks,Heli's,Planes etc...
I actually just sold two nice tamiya cars on craigslist a few nights ago also.
Im not a fan of RTR's cause I like building my own stuff but im into the tmaxx 3.3 my wife got me. I have hundreds tied up just fixing all the parts I break. I finally just got a pair of aluminum bulkheads coming in the mail today.

 

Im down south, but B&I has gone down hill. Its not the same anymore.

I will check the covington store out. Im glad there are more RC guys here to chat with. I will be needing all the help I can get



EDIT: What does RTR stand for?

 

RTR means Ready To Race, meaning they come built and ready to go. Depends on what you're into really... Do you want to actually learn the bits and pieces of the car and know what to look for when something goes wrong (something WILL... Just a matter of time), or do you want to just get it, have fun and hope for the best? (not the best option) Building them is fun and not TOO hard.
