Adding a subwoofer is a good first step and will be a huge improvement. If you do that, you will also need an amp for the new subwoofer. I would also disconnect the small sub that is in the car.

You can place sub in the trunk, by removing some foam blocks in the left hand flooring compartment. There was a nice write up on this not so long ago. Or, you can make a custom baffle to fit the spare tire cover depression. 12V outlet is there. It is very hard to satisfy each individual need in music quality. From what I had done, adding a good sub always was "it" for me. Some want lots of treble, so tweeters have to be replaced. I believe replacing door drivers does not do much.
