I have my name on the waiting list for a NX 350h F Sport. They come speced with run flat tyres but no spare. I live in South Africa and often do long trips on tar and gravel roads where the nearest town might be well over 100km (well out of the run flat range) distant and even if I can get there on a punctured run flat, it will be highly unlikely that they will have the correct spare tyre.
The only solution the dealer can offer is a kit with a spare tyre in a cover, jack, spanner etc BUT the tyre will have to lie in the boot thus taking up a large amount of luggage space. This won't work for me.
I see that there is a storage area below the boot cover where the spare would normally be kept. However I believe it is too small for the spare to fit.
I really had my heart set on this Lexus but the spare tyre issue is a deal breaker for me.
Has anyone had a modification made to have a spare tyre fit in the space below the boot? Or some other clever idea that does not have the tyre lying loose in the boot space or behind the back seat?
Could you slide a 'temporary spare' behind the passenger seat on the floor--thus leaving the cargo area for everything else? There are threads on where to buy these spare tires. They're smaller than regular spares. Google Modern Spare.
We really need a pic of the NX hybrid trunk and the rav4 hybrid trunk, which does apparently come with a temp spare. I'd like to know if the floorpan is significantly different enough or not to fit a spare in there.

I understand your dilemma as we live in a rural area and often trek into places with limited services. When traveling we use this: https://tinyurl.com/modernspare. I'm not sure if they will ship to your country but found it very convenient. I've put the jack and spanner in the boot where there is a space to secure. With the tire in the back in the carrying case I was still able to pack a full sized suit case and two carryons. Definitely gives one peace of mind when traveling remotely.
I'm waiting for some sort of aftermarket compartment to be able to retrofit our NX Turbos, there's plenty of room under there, it's just not configured correctly.
Thank you. I will Google to see if they have Modern Spare in South Africa. Shipping to this end of the world will be extremely expensive. In the meantime I have discovered that no tyre dealers in South Africa stock the 235/50R20 which is the tyre that the NX F Hybrid and SE trim come fitted with. Have sent an email to Toyota regarding this and am awaiting their response.
I might be interested in a bracket that holds it upright on the side of the trunk, like older SUVs. Even the new sienna has it there, albeit a bigger car.

AFAIK Toyota Rav4 comes with a spare tire (tyre). It won't be a 235/50R20 but I imagine it's still compatible with the NX. If so, maybe it's worth buying it from a Toyota dealer.
some NX 250s have a spare tire. NX 350 and 350 do not have the space that would accommodate a spare tire.
If the 250's have spare tires, then the compartment used in those should be available for a 350 Turbo, no? It would be a matter of finding the part numbers I'd guess.
