Exclamation Door opens itself while driving!

I was driving with a front passenger today. All doors were closed and no warnings on the dash before I started driving. While driving at 60 km/h, the door open warning appeared on the dash indicated front passenger door was not closed and the chime was played continuously. I could hear louder wind noise from the passenger front door. I stopped at a side street and closed the door again. Did anyone experience this before?

It sounds like you passenger didn't close his/hrer door all the way.

Does anyone remember in the old days before all the nannies when you would back up and slightly open the drivers door to see the end of the driveway. Well mother Lexus thinks this is a no-no and gives you a message turn off car before exiting. and then to further help you put s the car in park and if you try to move you burn rubber . Yes, thank you for the safety Lexus

Have passengers close doors fully. If the drivers door is open you get the results I mentioned above.

YMMV,

Actually it happened to me twice, I know all doors were closed but after driving a little bit all of a sudden I get this door opening chime. The second incident were actually on a highway and there’s no way I can stop so I kept on driving for like 15 min (chime kept going and driving me nuts) until I can exit the highway to stop and open the door and close it again. I mentioned this to my brother who has the exact same 350H but he never had this issue and he’s saying it could be me not closing the door in all the way. My argument is that if I didn’t close the door shut, the door chime and sensor would have been on when I started driving. I honestly think this new electronic door definitely has a design flaw. I’m glad I’m not the only one who has this issue, now to bring this issue up to the service tech and prove my point will be a whole different ballgame as I know they will tell me they never heard of this issue 😂.

Possibly two switches ? first door open sensor closes, then electronic door lock. door closes first closes door sensor, then second closes electronic door lock. Possibly situation could occur when door is almost closed and the door sensor switch is closed, but the second eletronic door lock switch is not closed. The later on door bounce open and opens door sensor switch.

YMMV,

I haven't seen this happen to me, but I did notice that the doors are harder to close. I do need to spend more effort to close the door. There are many scenarios where i close the door and it doesn't close.

@Dino2K Let's report this to the dealer. I have an appointment coming up and will see what they say. This is a safety issue and should be reported to Transport Canada if the dealer ignores it.

I agreed with this and I will do that as well to see if this problem will go away or not.

I contacted the guy that help us ordered the NX and he spoke to the technician, they wanted me to drop by so they can scan the vehicle to see if there’s any error code. I explain to him what happened and he told me that these doors are very sensitive and it could have been open even if I lean on it lightly. I told him first of all I never lean on the door when I drive and it just pop open during driving, secondly even if I lean on it it should NOT open the door as it as a safety issue which does not make sense at all which he agreed. Regardless they want me to bring in my NX to check for any error codes, we’ll see how it goes when I bring in my NX!!

Just for information purposes, can the electric release doors actually be opened intentionally when the vehicle is moving?

Doors are (electronically) locked when the vehicle is in drive mode in default setting. You can see the green LED on the lock button. When you press the door button, nothing will happen. However, I haven't tried to unlock it and press the door open button while driving.

This literally happened to me today. Was driving, leaned against the door and it opened but was still held in by the lock I think. Didn’t want to try , held the door shut till I could stop and slammed the door shut and it stayed shut. This should not be happening.

Yup! I was driving home from work on the interstate, doing around 70mph when the dash lit up and the car started alarming that the driver door was open. It sounded like a vacuum was released at first, then air rushing in. My door was closed for the previous 25 mins of interstate driving. I had both hands on the wheel, and I never lean on my door-if I rest, it is with my elbow on the console. It was a bit unsettling. I tried to open the door to shut it again, but it would not release until I used the emergency release method.

Please report all instances! Seems like a potentially serious safety issue.

Just came back from my dealership and they found nothing today.

"No abnormal issues found when inspected & tested"
"No DTC codes in system - No defects found today"
