Happening more often to me now. Sometimes I restart car, sometimes I reboot brain (big screen, hold down the volume/power button for 10 seconds for soft reset) but it is happening more often now.
Message is "wireless connection cant be made" or something like that. Can of course hard wire it via USB if all else fails but needs a long term fix.

I have only seen this message if I walk away from the car and come back. Have you reboot your phone?
I called my dealership, which is 70 miles away, and spoke to a Tech who walked me through the setup. The following day same problem, error message stating "Wireless Connection Failed." The problem is with bluetooth connecting with Apple CarPlay. I gave up for now and switched to bluetooth connection just for my phone. When I take my NX in for the recall I will see if the techs can figure it out. Hopefully Lexus has a service bulletin for this problem that involves an easy software update.

Please post the results. My dealership is 1.5hrs away so I’ve been putting it off.
This last time I only had to reboot screen the 10 second holding down the power button soft reset.
You reboot the Lexus infotainment or your phone?
Connection goes both ways. Sometimes it could be the phone not connecting properly via Bluetooth or WiFi direct.

Do you happen to know whether it primarily uses bluetooth over anything else?
We live in an area with poor cell reception and I feel like the car always has issues connecting CarPlay when we start our drive from home. If we're elsewhere when we turn the car on and the cell signal strength is stronger, there is rarely any issue getting CarPlay to connect. Not sure why that would be if bluetooth is intended to be the means by which the phone connects to the car. I think both the wifi and hotspot menu items are turned off, so not sure if that makes a difference? In my previous vehicle (2018 with a "dumb" bluetooth connection and no CarPlay), the vehicle would automatically connect to my phone with zero issues. Seems odd that Lexus wouldn't be able to accomplish the same thing unless there's some aspect of CarPlay in particular that affects things....
Also think there is some aspect of the VPN I run interfering with the connection, so curious to know if others have experimented or run into connection issues with that in play (or not).

My understanding is, wireless CarPlay uses wifi direct and Bluetooth. It connects with Bluetooth first then establish a wifi direct connection to the system. Wireless interference could cause CarPlay to disconnect. That's the disadvantage of wireless. The connect could be interrupted. A wired connection wouldn't have this issue.

Interesting.
Well, data point here in that I turned off my VPN and most of my connectivity issues disappeared. Don't love that idea, but it's mainly for unsecured wireless connections out in public or abroad, so I guess it's not a huge deal to turn on in those situations if it means working consistently with the vehicle.

yup... carplay and AA won't work with VPN as both CP and AA are basically creating/connecting to a wireless network with your car to transfer data for CP/AA, so a VPN will basically break all of that. I'm surprised you didn't get a warning trying to run Wireless CP with a VPN? on AA, it'll show you error screen on phone telling you need to turn off vpn
though to be honest, i prefer wired connection, doesn't drain battery and more reliable. going forward, i'm leaning towards not having CP/AA connect by default and just have calls/BT ..the car's infotainment is good enough especially with the connect service for routing/traffic/search. ..
I'm reviving this topic, as I've just started to have this problem as well. My wireless CarPlay has worked perfectly fine since I got the car back in April. On rare occasion, maybe once/month or so, the wireless connection would fail and I'd re-boot the infotainment system to solve the problem.
But all of a sudden, my phone won't connect wirelessly at all. I deleted the phone from the Lexus system. I deleted the NX from my phone. I re-started both the phone and the infotainment, added the phone again...no luck. My VPN is not on. The NX shows up on my phone when I look at Bluetooth connections and CarPlay connections, but the NX will not allow my phone to connect.
