Since we decided to save some money and not get the larger screen we don't get the three year free trial of Dynamic Navigation. I was looking at the Lexus web site and was wondering if someone knew exactly what this is saying. Here's the link to the page.
It is saying that it's $169 for two years - correct? Any idea what they mean by "before dealer installation"? I called the Lexus 800 number and she said that the dealer had to do a software update. That doesn't seem correct since there's already a page on the navigation screen saying all I need is a subscription. Has anyone gone through this and help me understand?

Thanks!!
I have the big screen and Luxury package, I did not buy the NAV option, I was told I dont have NAV. I can use "destination assist" by saying "Hey Lexus, destination assist" and then they answer the call and talk to me. If I have free NAV for 3 years I dont know that or how to use it.
Says I have "dynamic NAV", is that different from the NAV you buy?
Just went out and used it, works good.

I'm making the assumption that Dynamic NAV is the same. When you buy the big screen you get it free for three years like the other two subscriptions. For some reason when you get the smaller screen they don't give you Dynamic NAV - don't understand that, but whatever.
Dynamic navigation is not applicable to the new NX. The $169 is to update nav systems that aren't Interface like the new NX. For Interface systems (22 LX & NX), navigation is a subscription based service. The small screen gets no trial, the larger screen gets a 3 year trial. If you have a small screen and want to purchase a Drive Connect subscription, it's $16/month and you can do this thru the Lexus app.
To use the NX nav system is really easy. Just say "Hey Lexus" and give it a destination. You program home, work and other favorite destinations in the Lexus app.
We used to choose between no Nav (or Apple Car Play/AA) and a small lower resolution screen
or paying extra for the Lexus native Nav with static maps and rudimentary voice recognition.
Then Lexus introduced Dynamic Nav and Dynamic Voice w/ 36 month trials starting in 2018.
(Our phones work with a dynamic server based system.)
Now the Interface generation debut with two screen sizes and no native Navigation system at all.
Consider the difference between listening to your radio tuner and streaming content through your phone.
Both sound similar but are completely different technologies, right?
You can now have the Lexus stream your Navigation or use your phones Apple/Google/Waze maps.
An increasing number of folks don't want (to pay for) a car based Nav, "I'll just use my $1000 phone"

I understand the difference and if my wife's phone wasn't on a shared plan with a relative with a package that had limited data I wouldn't care about the Lexus NAV system. My beef, and I think I've said this before in this discussion, is that they don't offer the three year subscription with the 9 inch screen.

LOL. But they’ve already paid for the hardware (screen, gps antenna, etc) and software (maps). Thats already been factored into the vehicle price, they just haven’t paid to unlock it and actually use it. That’s the sad reality.
$16/month for 36 months is $576. The "14 screen is $1105 ala carte in models that don't include it such as the NX 450h
Try calling Lexus and negotiate for a cheaper monthly rate? I negotiated for my Sirius satellite radio subscription every 6 months when I had my last toyota

Lexus will not negotiate this rate as far as I know. It’s take it or leave it.
This thread mentions stuff I didn’t think about before, so would you consider it a waste of money to purchase the 14” screen and decide your not going to pay for a subscription to unlock its true features?
I will never pay monthly fees for any Navi, for any car. Isn’t google maps via car play free?

I did. I tried it for a couple of months. I figured I could spare the extra $20 if it made my life easier. The navigation UI looks good but it's really not that good. It kept telling me to exit way before my actual exit which does become quite annoying. It's going to be AA or ACP for me going forward. It's not worth the extra $$$.
