Do you know if you can subscribe ala cart monthly? One one on then maybe off for a couple months then back on? The NX is not our "road trip" car so isn't frequently taken on trips.

We have a satellite based Garmin with lifetime updates. I have that in the centre console as our backup in the event we're out of radio range. It's our first ride without dedicated vehicle navigation but we're getting over it.

Same here, exactly. We don't go on trips in this enough to justify an $18 per month subscription and, while small, the old school Garmin works just fine.

You are lucky, there are a lot of addresses within Houston that require a GPS.

YMMV,

Yeah - we're in a rather small town in central Illinois called Decatur.

Sorry to hear about the troubles you're having. I actually tried this myself a while back, except I downloaded the software update through Lexus's website.
Unfortunately, something went wrong during the update and it bricked my head unit as well. I was also charged a similar price for replacement but I was able to receive assistance from Lexus Corporate.
Since then I haven't done anything software related and may just go to the dealership for that update (hopefully makes it operate more smoothly?)
Here is my thread for reference:

Have you found a quick way to turn off the screen? The only way I know to do this is to through the settings which is cumbersome and the screen comes on the next time I start the vehicle. I would like to keep the screen off unless I decide to use carplay.

I usually switch my screen to the Radio (XM) screen.

As far as I know ours stays off once you dig down to turn it off 2022 year model). I think you still get some splash screens and that annoying sound but then it goes back dark. But I don't drive the car so am not 100% confident. But if it didn't, I'm sure my would've said something after a couple years.

So....can someone clarify or confirm. If you get the big screen, you get Lexus NAV for three years, then you have to pay monthly fee. But it is not a hard-drive based system, so if you don't pay, the maps are gone?

And if you get the small screen, but WANT TO PAY for Nav, you can't?

Thanks!

In my 2022 Lexus IS, the 3 year cloud based NAV thing expires after 3 years, but if you don't renew, it just uses the 3 year old maps that were loaded I guess on the hard-drive. No more new overlays.

If you get the smaller screen you have to pay right off the bat, instead of three years free. We 've never looked in to subscribing because we have phones. Plus we never take that car anywhere that we'd need it. This is based on the 2022 model. It may be different now.
