Oil change question
I'll have to eat my words here, with the exception of engine oil filters the part number is not indicative of an 'economy part'. That is the only part you can buy from either Toyota or Lexus for the engine found in the NX350 and 350h. Toyota Lexus does a few things on parts that go into the engine assembly at the factory so that the dealers can be certain nothing has been touched or replaced before they are asked to work on a vehicle that may have a warranty approved repair. Factory spark plugs have a coloured mark put on them for example, and oil filters use a specific part number that are not able to be sold. So the factory part number for an oil filter cannot be bought or found anywhere but on the original factory filter. All replacement spark plugs will not have the paint mark from the factory. This enables robust traceability for parts that were only used at the factory.

After reading many posts, I've decided to have the oil changed in my 2025 NX 350h sooner than recommended. I have about 3000kms (2000 miles) on it. Is it ok to have my Indy just do the first oil change, and then carry on with the dealer at 8000 kms (5000 miles) or will the dealership be upset?

Always keep excellent records on anything you buy for your car and install. Oil changes, filter changes, always keep a receipt and a record - such as bought oil Mar 3 installed on March 5, 4.5 litres xx,xxx miles.
One of the first push backs you'll potentially get if there's ever an issue concerning oil changes is the dealer will say, 'well we have no record of us ever doing an oil change', that's when you say 'ah but here's all my records of oil changes and filters I bought'.

In my experience, it does not, I guess because it’s a manual entry. I do it in both places.
I do update in http://drivers.lexus.com/lexusdrivers/history but does that automatically update CarFax or do I need to submit that elsewhere ??
Yes, you should change the oil now. But NOT because six months are up.
- Changing oil early in a motor is shown to really help with engine longevity on the back-end, reduced wear. This is shown in fleet studies scientifically. Get the original break-in oil, with wear materials in it, out.
- It is a myth that time decays modern oil. It is highly stabilized against that. Miles and use/wear/contamination from combustion by-products matter. We have massive amounts of data on this from lab analysis. The Blackstone data can be mined for incredible insight like this. Here’s a great summary:

Once you do this oil change, then you can do the normal oil change interval you want to do, and not worry about time - just watch the miles.

My wife just got a 26 NX350, and I was talking to her about this first oil change that I can certainly do. She asked if the filter should be changed as well, and common sense suggests that it should, no? Since it will catch those wear materials you mentioned above. If yes, should it be an OEM filter so that the dealer doesn't say something at that first 5 or 10k oil change that they will do for free?? I imagine that if they see another brand of filter, they will raise a concern.
Thanks
The myth is not concerning the engine oil per say but the contaminants that gather in it. I've been around long enough to know that taxi cabs, delivery vehicles etc. that are constantly running at optimum engine temps don't degrade their engine oil fast at all. Plenty of studies on this were done years ago. But have a hybrid engine start up run for 3 minutes, then turn off, start up in a few minutes and turn off again, over and over, guess what it's alway's on the warmup cycle with rich fuel settings, I know they try to heat up the engine oil faster but especially in colder weather you get fuel dilution happening in your engine oil. Look into Honda CRV early hybrids, it was a big problem. Oil is cheap, ask a mechanic to pick up a wrench and 'look at your car', and it's $150- $190 an hour around here and that's a minimum charge for most shops. That's about the price of 2 oil changes around here.

I just did the first oil change of my NX 350h.
Factory filter was 90915-10009.
I installed a 90915-YZZN1.

I did it without lifting the car: bad idea everything is so much more difficult.

After much research years ago, I learned that Pennzoil Platinum synthetic had very gpod reviews, and I used it on my previous Rogues. I may continue using it on the NX, unless I learn otherwise.
This car requires 0w20, as I'm sure you know.

the filter is robust, and not the issue here. The oil will take contamination to it and it will be stripped there.
Use good filters. OE Toyota filters are easily good for two oil changes. Left over fluid in the fi.ter is not a problem, and actually a positive based on most recent research. (Can’t go into that now). I use Fram Ultra filters and leave them three oil changes, for example.
If I do not respond to your questions timely, please pm me. You have a brand new car/engine and I get the desire and anxiety about taking best care of it.
PS - if some Mod could help me figure why I do not get notices I would love that. I am not forum stupid, and in fact a Mod at some other auto forums. I have a unique problem here and I cannot figure out why.
