Are there any considerations with regard to having the local Toyota dealership do my NX oil change and tire rotation? I used to own a Camry and trust the dealership. Toyota once told me they do it all the time and to just call first and confirm they had a Lexus filter. I just used up my last included Lexus service. I haven’t compared the prices yet. I don’t want to be too penny wise/pound foolish.

I chuckled when you stated the Toyota dealer had to see if they have any Lexus oil filters because the new NX uses a Toyota oil filter.

I could not scheduled my last oil change at my Lexus, so I just stopped at nearby Toyota and they did the oil change, alignment, and tire rotation. They did not however initiated the tire rotation registration through the settings, I had to do that myself, but other than that as someone said Lexus is glorified Toyota

In fairness to the local Toyota, I asked them about it like 3 years ago, when I was still with my Toyota and just considering a Lexus.

I just bought two at the local Lexus dealer for $4.39 each. They did match the online pricing from Bell Lexus Scottsdale.

Doing alignments when absolutely no proof of any problem is a pure money grab. No uneven tire wear, steering wheel sits straight up when driving, no car wandering can’t track straight, then no reason to align simple. Suspension components especially when fairly new, I mean less than 5 years or under 60,000 miles roughly, should be in good shape and not cause any issues. Hitting a pothole does not mean go directly to jail and get an alignment. These suspension parts are extremely robust. I mean would the manufacturer make a part so weak and feeble it couldn’t withstand a pothole. Now if you hit a huge pothole I mean a Canadian made pothole take note and see if any conditions noted above begin happening. If not carry on. It’s more important to ask the technician to check for signs of wear in suspension. All that’s needed is to grab the unloaded wheel while up on hoist and try to detect any play side to side top to bottom. Takes a few seconds each tire and they’ll possibly do it for free. No play no pay.

Be aware of the infamous economy line of Toyota parts!
Part #'s with YZZ in them are still Toyota approved fully warrantied parts but are a little cheaper than proper factory standard parts. Typically air filters, cabin air filters and oil filters can be found in economy form. You don't have to accept these and should point out to dealer you don'y want their econo line but factory standard parts.

Cabin air filter with carbon is the factory part # 871390E040
Economy part number is 87139YZZ93 I was duped last fall when asking for replacement part for my cabin air filter. When I got home and compared I noticed the difference.

The bottom one is darker - more carbon - and way more cleats = more filter material.

Here's some videos on part numbering Toyota way and how to spot counterfeits:

When I look up an oil filter for the NX350h I get part number 90915-YZZN1. So this must be an economy part. But I can't find an oil filter part number for the non-economy part. TheCDN, could you please post the part number for the non-economy oil filter? Thanks.

The non-economy part number is 90915-10009 made in Japan but it's not sold by dealers or retail. I am buying a bunch of them in Japan when I go this month.

The outer case is made from the steel of 500 yr old samurai swords and the filter material made from Japanese silk. They cost $500 ea.

I'm assuming you may do your own servicing, but you got me wondering if Toyota or Lexus will let you bring your own filters?

It pays for the "free" Lexus coffee and cookies

You can get Acura serviced at Honda dealers also.

YMMV,

I bring mine also. I go to Walmart and buy five quart jug of Mobil 1 0-16 weight and I think it's around $24. I buy the Toyota oil filters online for $5. I take them to my Lexus dealer or Toyota dealer and they charged me generally about $35 labor. I do this to save a little bit of money but I do it more to know I'm getting Mobil 1. The service manager told me years ago they use a bulk storage unit that they wheel around obviously because they do so many and it's an oil I cannot remember what the brand is but it's not Mobil 1 or Pennzoil It's a brand I'd heard of but I would not consider a major brand..
