Not sure if this is the correct forum, but I found this weather "Car Weather" app that is CarPlay compatible that others may find useful when traveling. It will display Live Weather on your infotainment screen.

Not sure about for CarPlay, but Weather & Radar by WetterOnline works on Android to show weather in the same manner.

 

It'd be awesome to have that as an overlay feature on Apple or Google Maps.

 

I'm playing with it on the phone, and the free verions seems really heavy on the ads. I assume the carplay experience might be better?

 

I'm not sure about the free version and CarPlay as I have subscribed to the Pro version.

 

You might also try MyRadar, its free. Its similar and free, and I dont recall seeing ads. Also I thought Apple was offering a weather widget with this ios? I wonder if it might offer similar functionality.

 

Thanks for the suggestion. I installed the app on my iPhone and I see that it is in a free trial mode. The subscription price is lower than for Car.Weather. All of the map layers available on the iPhone do not seem to be available in CarPlay — for example weather fronts.

When I first installed MyRadar it displayed in CarPlay, but then when I went to the iPhone to take a screen shot of the different functions available between the iPhone app and what appears on CarPlay, the beta 4 version of CarPlay crashed. I rebooted my iPhone and MyRadar was still available. (Could have just been a Beta problem.)

Until I use it a bit more I won't be able to say for sure which I like better, but my first impression of MyRadar is good, but I prefer Car.Weather (with the widget in the top right corner displaying information I like to see.) Also I prefer the color of the map in Car.Weather.

I agree that having a weather layer available on Apple Maps (or Google Maps) would be great.

In CarPlay you can have your navigation running on Apple Maps in the background but have Car.Weather showing on the infotainment screen. Turn notifications will appear on CarPlay as well as on the dash (in my car).
