Default Oil Change

My 6-month old 2025 Lexus NX450+ only has 900kms on it, the dealer called and offered the first service (oli change...) free of charge. I am debating whether I should do it or not since there are so few kilometers on it.
I appreciate any thought on this.

I would see if they would give you the first oil change at a much higher mileage. At my dealer the first service was a free overall inspection and attention to any warranty issues that I had. The second was also free and included a tire rotation. I also had them do an oil and filter change (that I paid for) as I had accumulated enough hours on the ICE. I also sent an oil sample away for analysis from the Motor Oil Geek who has a great YT channel. The report will advise you on the proper oil change interval customized to your driving history.

In the PHEV it is not so simple as changing the oil based on distance driven. For example most of my driving is electric only — up to 80 km (50 miles) per day. I keep track of gasoline consumption and base the oil change interval based on kilometres travelled using the ICE. For example using 565 litres at 7 litres/100km ~ 8072 km (~5015 miles)

I wish there was an easy way to get actual ICE engine hours.

Are you in the US? Will you still get the free oil change at the one year mark as well?

If they are offering it for free, I don't see why not take them up on it.

I second tundotcom's post. An early first oil change is a good thing since breaking in the engine results in some contamination of the oil. From what I read, many of the reliable mechanics recommend an oil change at 6 months regardless of the mileage.

If it truly includes an oil change and not just a free "service" than do it. I have never not had oil analysis come back with low metals at my personal initial 1k mile oci on a new car.

Comments above 💯 % spot on. Motor Oil Geek on YouTube who is a certified oil expert did a break down of the oil changed at 1,000 miles and then 5,000 miles. He absolutely recommends an early change.

Just got my 1st oil change at 1200 miles.
In the waiting room, there was an entire freezer full of ice cream snacks, another refrigerator full of 6 different kinds of beverages.
And of course, Coffee, tea, and edible snacks. I didn't get anything because I attempt to do "one meal a day".
I'll get my next oil change (2nd complimentary, they give you 2) at 5000 miles.
Didn't know 0W-16 was only full synthetic. Bumps up oil change prices by about $30 from synthetic blend.
I think I might do every 7000 miles after the 5000 mile oil change.

My Service Advisor for my wife's RX told me to get my NX service done every six months regardless of mileage. (My CPO has the first two years of service included.) If they are offering it free of charge, take advantage.

900 kms is about 560 miles. I change my new-car oil in the 500-1000 mile range. I, too, say get the oil change, whether offered free or not.
