Excellent Question, typically, scratches tend to happen when one is not careful or in a rush. For example, a watch band, brecelet or ring hits the screen when reaching. I use a foldable windshield shade guard. Overtime, the fabric wears and then the springs frame gets exposed. When I drive my disabled mother, placing the handicap placard sometimes, it slips out of my hand and drops as its not the most easy thing to take on and off. A microfiber cloth at the carwash that may not be super clean. What I like is no finger prints. Now the finger print issue could have been because before I had the glass protector I had that temporary plastic cover.

Another reason is my buddy scratched my LC's infotainment screen even though it is not even touch screen and there was no reason for him to touch it or the area. Not sure if he was jealous of my new car at the time because he does those types of things. Fortunately, you can only see it under certain lighting conditions.

Hey, @websurfer sorry that happened. However, I don't think mechanics damage radio screens very often and I am not sure that a screen protector would protect against a mechanic with an errant screwdriver. Again, sorry this happened to you and especially you should not of had an issue with your dealership fixing/replacing it.

YMMV,

hey @midcow3 , Lol, thanks but anything can happen when you have your vehicle in other people's hands. Sometimes, I feel I guess the best of luck when I leave my car in other people's hand. I always check out the vehicle now before I take delivery after service before driving off. I have lots of stories of dealer mishaps that I'll save for another day.

hey all,
Either way, the screen protector is very cheap for about $20. Not sure why people are even debating it.

Those who wonders why someone needs protection, kids can scratch it,also family member likes to use wet tissue papers(that includes spirt)to clean car interior.spirt will cause protective layer of the screen to peel off.
i think protective film is enough, glass is thick and ugly
