Default 2025 NX 350 Two Beeps Tailgate won't CLOSE!!

Have anyone experience this issue, tailgate will open electronically with no issues, but IT DOESN'T close, if I try closing it with any method possible (feet, fob, buttons) it will beep twice and stay open, will not even try or move, started happening intermittent and now it does it all the time, dealer service department acknowledged faulty sensors, they said is happening a lot and sensors are in back order, it may take 2 weeks or 2 months, I found this situation unacceptable! if Lexus knows about this issue should prioritize the parts instead forcing the customer to wait months for a fix to something so essential and necessary, so much for luxury having to close your tailgate manually!

Do you back away from the car after you press one of the buttons (close or close & lock)? If you or anyone else is close enough that one of the many sensors at the rear of the car picks you up, it won't close; safety feature.

I don't have it, so I'll keep a lookout, but mine works fine.

Welcome to the 2020s, parts supply for newer cars has been challenging for years now for many manufacturers. Its just super common these days for some non-maintenance type parts to take weeks, sometimes many, it has been the decade of frustration for sure. First Covid shutdowns, then chip shortages, then supply chain and labor disruptions, and now throw in high tariffs, no one is catching any breaks at all this decade.

I guess just take solace that your worse case scenario is manually closing your hatch for a few weeks. I've seen many, so many stories of people's cars being completely undriveable for many months due to parts shortages.

Thanks' for your comment! When you have a baby in one hand and a bag or stroller in the other, you really start to see things differently, this thread is meant to see how common this issue is in the community, I'm already managing my situation the best I can till it gets resolved.

That automatic back door is a picky little thing, it could be a faulty sensor, or it could be an user error. You start to close - it will not work, you stand too far - it will not work, you move away too fast - it will not work, you move away too slow - it will not work lol I think I had something similar with the hatch would not work after I killed my battery. So step 1 one: first just try to use a button next to your wheel to open the tailgate and close it with the same button, just press and hold till the door would start to open, then press and hold till it start to close. Maybe do it twice, the first time with the car ON, then the next time with the car OFF. Then we go to step two: try to open the door with your foot, opening it with a foot is easier than closing it, and just to see if it works after step one or not, make sure the key is in your pocket. If it opens, then great, if it does not, then there is really something wrong. Now if it opens fine, we go to step three, that is closing it and that is a tricky part as you just have to try to find that sweet spot where it works, you may be standing too close or too far, maybe do not have the key close enough, maybe there is an obstacle nearby, maybe you are moving back and forward again. Anyway, good luck. I think the problem might be that the door needs to be initiated first. for whatever reason, with the trunk button next to your steering wheel, but again could be really just a faulty sensor(s) indeed.

So we know from the description, the Fob, Both Tail Gate Buttons on the Tailgate and the Kick sensors when activated do not result in closing the tailgate. What does the remote button on the Dash Panel do when you press it? is it the same thing?

Have you checked the sensors on the bumper for dirt or debris or wax buildup? Have you cleaned them? Those sensors could be dirty causing them to not read correctly. Also have you tried the Lexus App to close the lid? Is there any resistance when closing manual which the car is thinking something is restricting closure?

Basic Inventory Management - Only keep high failure items in stock.

YMMV,

Thank you for stopping by and your suggestions, to answer your questions, no matter what button on the car, app or key fob, or the kick sensor will close the tailgate, will open fine but it will not close, it just beeps twice and won't even try to move. Sensors on the bumper are all good (They work fine on reverse).

Do you have the tailgate setting set to ON? See photo. (red) It is in Dutch. AAN=ON, UIT=OFF
when it's off it doesn't work.

The SUV's have a safety auto stop feature built into the rubber gasket on the hatch (back door in Lexus-speak).
If the closing door encounters an obstruction, it beeps twice and stops. What seems to be happening is the
safety sensors are failing and trigger the double beep and no action every time. It can be fixed at the dealer
under warrantee.

Hey, an FYI! I had this issue and the dealership replaced the pinch sensors back in January 25’. the same issue again after 9 month's. I just left the dealership the other day and they told me that they have this issue a lot and there was an updated version of the sensors that came out in March that will correct the issue permanently. I will update tomorrow after they order the new and approved parts and install them. I'll post the updated Part Numbers.

Hi. Here are the updated Touch Sensors Part Numbers 84280-F6010 Sensor Assy, Power B

84270-F6010 Sensor Assy, Power B Their estimated cost was $1,117.32

Good thing it was still under warranty 👍

I had the same problem. I took it to Lexus and they said it was a sensor so they replaced it. A couple weeks later it happened again and they said it was the other sensor and they had to replace that one. I don't know why they just didn't replace both at the same time. Good thing is there's only two and they've both been replaced.
