Default Digital Rear view

Can a digital rear view mirror be added to a FSport 2?
The regular mirror is practically useless.

I don't use mine, finding the view at night is blurry. Also, with my progressive lenses, I find the view other times isn't as good as with the normal mode. Great if I have a car loaded up, but otherwise, I wouldn't get it if I had a choice.

I used mine all day every day for a couple of years because I wore Multifocal Contact Lenses where the brain decides which part of the lens to look through. I didn’t use it at night due to the light flare from the camera.

Since 6 months ago I changed to wearing my glasses which have progressive lenses I cannot use the digital rear mirror. This is because the area at the top of the glasses I use to look at the mirror is actually for distance and the mirror is a foot from my eyes. It just makes me feel ill. I do miss it though.

Wife and I both agree. I wear contacts she doesn't. Extremely blurry and distorted. Gives us a headache. Disappointed because we were excited about getting it and never use it.

Use mine constantly. No issues with progressives after a week of getting used to it. The wider view and no headlight glare at night… love it.

I tried it and didn’t like it at all. From what I’ve read, it seems to be a matter of using it consistently until you get used to it. To me, it seems like the issue is spatial disorientation, like your eyes weren’t expecting to see it this way.

LOL, no one answers the actual question. The camera for the digital rear view is a dedicated camera at the top of the rear glass, it doesn't use the backup cam. So not only would you need the mirror, but you'll also need the camera too. I suspect buying the OEM parts will be very expensive, there may be some aftermarket choices not nearly so costly (including ones also with HomeLink). But the big question for using OEM parts is, does the existing wire harness already have plug n play support for adding them. That I'm not sure of but maybe. It would seem to me a bit more hassle for Lexus to have separate wire harness part # for a simple feature like this but you never know. There doesn't seem to be much tie in with other car features, car turns on, so does camera and all features and controls are localized to the mirror. Maybe try popping off some trim pieces at the back and see if there's a free connector where the cam would go.

Yea, lots of people don't like it, some love it (20 mths ago I tried both, I've had mine in digital mode ever since). The big challenge is if you have trouble transitioning from far to near focus, its going to be an issue and even if you can, it takes weeks, maybe a couple months to really get used to it, but once you do IMO going back to a regular mirror is like tossing your toilet paper and going back to leaves (LOL). One minor additional feature which I think (not sure) is only on the digital mirror is the two way communications for the garage door opener (some garage door openers are capable of transmitting back to the car the status of the door, if its moving, if its successfully closed or opened, and the status will display in the mirror). Good luck...

not sure but I use mine 100% of the time. It’s always clear day and night. On occasion I’ll get a blinding driver behind me that distorts the view. other than that I freakin love it and would NEVER buy another car without it. I also wear progressive glasses and never have an issue👍

I agree. Just for fun, go and get the price for the OEM Digital mirror at the dealers part department. Make sure someone is there to support you so you don't fall down...

You can I guess if you have wire harness, which may or may not be present. Or willing to spend serious time & money on the harness, camera, etc.
Most likely it is not plug & play nor big improvement and not worth it IMHO. Like it may be useful at day time but just acceptable at night. And you need to change eye focus closer just to glance at it - it's not so comfortable, depending on your eyes.
You can shift the mirror from digital to regular mirror by hand, but then you would need to adjust position because optimal digital mirror position is very different from regular mirror one, it's like little TV.
You can buy garage door remote for few dollars, integrating it into the mirror is unnecessary IMHO.

Lightbulb add-on backup camera ?

Why not look at an add-on rear view camera ? Here is an inexpensive one from Amazon.

YMMV,

I’m on team Love it. I too have progressives and it did take about a week for me to orient properly. But after that I really appreciate what it does.

I also wear progressives. My trick for the digital rear mirror is to not try to focus on reading the license plate of the car behind me, but rather than being very aware of what’s behind me. When I approach it that way, there’s no comparison, digital mirror all the way!

The specs I received before buying my 25 NX indicated that it had a digital rearview mirror. When I picked it up, it did not have it. Apparently for MY 25, it is no longer bundled with the heads up display.

I was thinking about trying to add it, but read about the problems mentioned above, and lost interest. There is another thread where someone mentioned the mirror gets hot, which also turned me off on trying to add it.
