Default SatNav Traffic Detour

Hi, apologies if this has been discussed before. I'm new to Lexus, just got an NX 350H. Reading the Nav manual I can't see anything about it automatically suggesting a Detour if traffic problems are detected ahead. Surely it does this - and I'd rather find out now instead of ending up stuck in a 2 hour jam somewhere!

If the Nav does not have this functionality, Android Auto would be my fallback. But I don't think that can put the turn graphics in the HUD?

Would welcome any advice. Thanks.

I use AA/Waze exclusively and you're right, directions don't appear in the HUD. But the big screen splits, so I have my streaming audio on the other part. With that much real estate for the map, I can easily see what's going on with a glance in addition to the directions in words from the Waze dude. If I'm really in need, I can use up the entire screen with the map. I much prefer this along with warnings about construction, vehicles on the shoulders, stuff on the roads and of course, police activity.

yes its dynamic and it's a typical modern built-in Navi system. with that note the feature is free or 3 years for Lexus and subscribe afterwards if the owner want to keep the feature.

Drive Connect does this; it automatically reroutes and in some cases detects heavy traffic and asks if you want to go a faster route.

YMMV,

Thanks all for responding. Good to know the Standard Nav will re-route. I was going to jump straight to using AA but as there is remaining Drive Connect subscription on my car I will try it first and see how i get on.

Hi. Does anyone have detailed info on how the standard Lexus satnav displays alternative routes due to traffic? I've found a few articles on this on-line but they are all a bit vague. Thanks.

Vague likely because the detailed information would be protected as proprietary for the most part. Nav systems are of course all based on some kind of shortest path algorithm that may even be open sourced or licensed broadly, but I would suspect each implementation would tweak it for conditional parameters like distance vs time, fuel economy vs time, road conditions and frequency of usage and so forth to try to drag as much insight as possible from the available data. Most nav software periodically recomputes alternate routes as you go, and if one pops up that meets set criteria for required benefit over the existing route than the new route is offered up. What's most interesting is where the traffic data comes from, whether its crowd sourced by watching the movement of thousands of devices running the software in real time constantly recomputing and applying average speed tags and user volumes to various (sections of) roadway or whether its using some kind of service that utilizes other methods of data gathering (highway management cameras/sensors, posted speeds, statistical averages, etc). Lots of crowd sourced data is the holy grail for this kind of software if the data can be crunched in near real time, to be able to recognize the value of a reroute shortly after a traffic event starts to make a mess of things. The exact details of how any specific software is tuned is likely locked away in the various source code repositories with two guys in black suits, wearing ear pieces and sunglasses, with neurolyzers in their pockets blocking your way.

Thanks. I should have been more explicit - apologies. My question is about how to use this feature.

I have the setting on Manual. Occasionally I get an on-screen message saying "alternative Route". If i click on that it displays a route (which didn't look any different to the one I was on, but difficult to tell whilst driving) Whatever, I couldn't see an option to say "accept the new route".

I'm now going to try this on Auto and see what that does.

Anyone successfully used this feature?

Thanks.

LOL, might have been just me. I'm so used to getting hit up with technical questions at work I guess I tend to assume everything is...
