Well this is weird. We have had the car for just over a year now and some time ago my wife noticed the faintest hairline scratches (actually much less than a scratch) on the nav screen. It was so minor and just barely visible when the light hit it a certain way. I saw all the posts about there being a film on the screen that the dealers forget to remove but I really couldn't see evidence of any film so I figured just ignore the scratches. Then today while driving I noticed some weird pattern at the top corner of the nav screen and upon closer inspection it is indeed the film that was never removed. I didn't tell the wife yet since she would opt to remove it but I was thinking just to leave it on since it is serving as a screen protector anyway. The funny thing is that it took more than a year for me to discover the film.

I would be reluctant to leave the shipping protective film in place over a long period of time, because its really only meant for short term shipping protection and especially in an environment subject to extreme temperatures. Over my decades in IT I've seen people leave the shipping film on laptops and monitors and after (admittedly quite a few) years the plastic hardens, yellows, and bakes onto the surface of the device. I remember one laptop so bad I literally had to junk it even though it still worked because it was so disgusting looking and was past the point of cleaning it off. If you want screen protection, spend the $15 and get a glass one.
