Default Easy exit not working

Hi all, so, my easy exit is not working anymore. The seat usually moves back when I turn off the car and moves back to original position when I turn it on, but now only the steering wheel moves. I tried turning it off and on in the settings, but it’s not working. Anyone also experience this and have a fix?

Is the seat still move with the power switches, that would be step 1 to confirm the seat motor still works.

I’ve had some unusual experiences like it not sliding back when I exit, but sliding back when I start the engine; completely backwards. If you have the memory buttons on the door set, try using that to see if it adjusts properly to the drive position and hopefully resets the easy out part. I haven’t had what you describe, but the above sometimes works for my weirdness.

Default RX350 easy exit problem

I had a service visit in early January and since then I have had the same issue. I can still make the easy exit work if I follow an exact shutdown sequence.

My main symptoms are:
I stop and put the car in park.
unbuckle seat belt
shut off car
open door - the seat does not move and I get a bell ding ding ding as if I did not shut down the car completely.

I can get it to work correctly if I:
Start the car
buckle up
put car in drive
put car in park
shut off car
unbuckle - seat moves back.

In the past it worked regardless of the sequence of steps. I am hoping to avoid a service visit.

tiLLIKS - can you try this exact sequence of steps and see if it works?

Is this function only available with seat memory buttons?

The problem has been resolved. I played around with the car shutdown sequence enough over the next month to sort out it was related to the shifter position. If I shut down but put the car in park - out of park - back to park the problem did not occur,

I have always kept a trash bag in the car - looped around the shifter. The half full bag was heavy enough in January to slightly pull the shifter out of position. I got rid of the trash bag and it never happened again.

I will also add that the problem occurred in mid January when it was very cold out. By the time i sorted things out the temps had warmed up. Could the problem be related to temperature? I will find out next winter.

BTW my Lexus dealer service department was useless.

Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions. In my case I had something hanging around the gear shift and when it's in park it's not fully in park. I guess easy exit only activates when the gear shift sensor sense the car is 100% in park.
Problem solved.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that bags of trash hanging from the shifter **** are not going to pull the shifter **** out of the Park position. What could possibly go into a bag of trash in a car that would be heavy enough to do that? Add to that you also have to have your foot on the brake in order to take the car out of Park. If the center display and the shifter **** show the "P" is illuminated then it's 100% in Park and can't be partially in Park. It's either in Park or it's not in Park. If the issue was resolved then that was just coincidence and it was due to another reason.

I removed the bag ( plastic grocery bag) and the problem never happened again. It went from the problem happening every other time exiting the car to zero occurrences. Someone else has observed the same thing.

I will comment that the car never came out of park.

For safety sake never put / hang anything over your gear selector. You'll always risk the mass of the object being heavy enough to pull it out of drive or any other selection, especially when you turn fast to avoid something, hit the brakes hard or any quick movement.

The exit movement from the seat and steering are very sensitive to resistance when it's operating. So for instance when you get in and the seat is pushing your body toward the steering wheel, if you push back with your muscles it will stop. Getting out produces same scenario, the resistance from any object obstructing it's movement will cause it to stop for safety reasons. It doesn't want to crush toes from back seat passenger or there may be a package on floor of back seat that may obstruct the movement, so it stops just to be safe.

It's very sensitive to this I find.

mksee88 , Which dealer did you find “useless” ?
I’m in MA also. I’ve got 5,000 miles on it now.
Bought mine from Lexus of Sharon but haven’t gone back , such a long ride from Lunenburg.
Closer to me, I’ve bought oil filters and accessories from Northborough Lexus parts department, for that service they have been helpful & friendly. Nice snack selection too 🤓

Probably wouldn’t pull it out of park but it doesn’t take much side pressure to get neutral.
Might depend on which side the trash bag is hanging on.

My dealer is Lexus of Watertown. Its only 9 miles away from Woburn but the drive through downtown Arlington - Belmont - Watertown makes it a 30-40 minute drive. Not many alternatives. I am on my 2nd RX350 since 2009. I have had many frustrating discussions and arguments with the service department over the years.
The snack selection used to be excellent, now almost nothing!
