Default Oh well

1000 miles 7 weeks old…. Hit with a stone and cracked the front windshield. I’m having the agency replace it and calibrate the cameras. They said it’s OEM glass. If I file claim the insurance company will most likely send the NX to one of their shops and I visualize an aftermarket or scrapyard replacement. I got a price $1800. Our NX is officially broken in.

I remember when you could get a car and get hit with a stone so large it would sound like a shotgun going off. Often you would get a tiny spider or maybe just a chip. Not anymore, time for a new windshield.

Same for us. Big stone chip within a month of new. We had it filled, but it didn't change it's appearance. We won't have it replaced until we get a couple more.

My insurance company will pay for oem glass but I have to request it. I can go where I want for installation. Hope your baby feels better soon.

I know exactly how you feel when some "event" ends that new car honeymoon. I have always been super careful with cars not only when I first get one but throughout ownership which is often 10 years or more. My prime pet peeve is door dings/paint chips and as much as possible I avoid parking close to other cars. However no matter how careful there is always that first door ding that spoils things and ends the "new car" experience. Now it is just a car.

There it is. Well said. I’d feel better if cars came from the factory not so perfect on the outside. Wouldn’t it be great if a worn in look was fashionable. I’d order mine with 1 or 2 dings. A few light scratches and a rashed wheel. And a bumper sticker reading Please Park Close To Me.. I Give Up.

I know how you feel. I've bought a lot of new cars over the years, but also a lot of gently used ones too and it always is a bit less stressful in the parking lot when the gently used one already has a couple blemishes. Today I was in the garage fretting over some water drop stains and some stubborn bug guts on the chrome strip of my passenger side mirror. LOL.

Prior to the NX the last 3 were gently used. My RX I bought off lease 3 yrs old with lowish miles in really good shape for 40% less than a new one and I had 10 problem free years with it. But things are different now (and still), many gently used cars around where are at OR MORE than a new one. I'm currently shopping for my wife and she's interested in a newish Forester. Most of the ones around here 3 yrs old with moderate low mileage cost more than a new one, the difference being a 1 day wait vs months. Trying to decide if we suck it up and buy (and wait for) new, or go for one even older. I might not have bought the NX if used car prices were sane. Now I love my NX, but I do spend way more time worrying about it and keeping it looking perfect (for now).than I did when I got my RX.

To those that say It’s only a car. Is it? It’s only a piece of expensive functional artwork. It’s only thousands of dollars to repair. I laugh
when I see a female park … go too far and and scrape the underside of the front fascia. I say to my wife .. there goes her husbands car. I get hit and the look after that

@Sounds When you say "the agency" who is that? The Dealer, or a glass company? Stay away from Safelite Autoglass. They only install chinese glass. I used to own a Superclass Windshield Repair franchise. You want to keep the original glass as long as you can. But any crack over six inches or a crack in the drivers line of view has to be replaced by law. But anywhere else it can be repaired. So if at all possible have it repaired and not replaced. Most insurance companies repair at no cost to owner. Replacements are typically generic but they will allow OEM glass if the car is relatively new or you can pay the difference between generic and OEM. So the insurance company picks up most of the cost you just pay the difference.

But keep your original glass if possible.

I lived in Florida on and off for about 25 years. Three different vehicles with cracked windshields. Just took it to a local dealer. And insurance paid for everything. Nothing out of pocket

I had the same happened to me when I bought my 2017 ES350 in August 2017. 2 months in and a cracked windshield.
Called my insurance (Safeco) and they approved the OEM windshield without any fuzz. $1200 was the total cost, my deductible was $100.

No OEM glass in the county. Waiting for the service advisor to get back to us.
