Default Modern Spare and alignment pins

I got the (full) spare kit today... very nice package. Instead of of getting alignment pins I got 5 lug bots. What was in your package if you ordered alignment pins? Thanks, Frank

edit update: The 5 lug bolts are for the spare tire. The alignment pins are being sent. Modern Spare is a quality vendor. Especially that they replied today.

it is a straight threaded pin. Put on it and it’s used to hang/hold the wheel while lug nuts are being /removed installed. Otherwise the spare is held/propped up in one arm while the lugs bolts are being put on with the opposite hand. And that is not ideal. Pins make a hugh difference.
They are a must.

Gotcha, thanks! I guess I'm old because I just assumed they still used threaded wheel lugs and the tires were held on with lug nuts.

Randy... you're not old. Some cars do and some don't ...but good to know ahead of time. At my age everything weighs 100 lbs. The spare is heavy enough. The alignment pins will be very helpful removing the damaged tire off of the car. I hurt my back badly years ago handling a mounted tire. Be careful everyone. Let Roadside handle it ....but if it comes down to DIY...you'll appreciate having the alignment pins. They can be purchased from Amazon or Modern Spare and various car part vendors. Should cost about $8-12 per. Only 1 is needed.

When I purchased my Modern Spare back in April, I ordered the full kit. I did NOT purchase any extras. My set did not come with Pins or Bolts. I did buy some really nice Pins off the internet though. I also purchased a Silicone Wheel Socket to protect the wheel from being scratched and damaged when taking off and working with lug bolts.

Pins:
Amazon Amazon

Socket:
Amazon Amazon

Glove Box Organizer:
Amazon Amazon

Latest thing I purchased is Deployable Electric Running Board for NX 2023. Can't wait to receive them and have them installed.

correct.

@Sounds Looks like I'm pulling a bolt to see if it fits my spare. Thanks for posting this. I would have been ticked if I got out there and needed to use it and discovered this.

If you want the dimensions of the Modern Spare bolts please let me know. Following your results.
The factory bolts might be too long/short...different head, etc.

Okay, I just got back from the garage. Good News and some photos. But just to make sure, I have a 2023 NX 450H+ Base. And I purchased the Modern Spare Kit. The Jack had to be replaced as it was the wrong one. (Thanks go out to another post that said to check this. I did and notified Modern Spare and they sent the correct height Jack)

Modern Spare with Tire

So I went out to the car and removed a Bolt from one of the wheels.

Looks like 1-3/4" long total.

Inserted OEM Bolt into Modern Spare

Only sticks through about 1/2". Not very much since there appears to be a small bead maybe a thread or two deep.

THEN I discovered inside the cardboard piece stuck in the center of the Spare wheel, a bag of Bolts. So I WAS WRONG, I DID get bolts with my spare. Last photo is size comparison between OEM Bolt versus Modern Spare Bolt.

Spare Bolt is LONGER. Much better.

So, there you go. I did screw the Spare Bolt into the OEM wheel just to check threads and it worked good.
The ONLY thing I didn't do was take a photo of the Spare Bolt in the Spare itself to see that the difference was. Since the Spare Bolt is maybe 1/4" longer it should work better. I also noticed the cone on the Spare Bolt was longer than the OEM.

Hope this helped others. It did me because I discovered I had Spare Bolts after all.

Correct way to use the alignment pin. Top bolt. hole first.

But ONLY if it happens to be at high noon. When I pulled the back wheels to install the Mud Guards I had the top hole at about 1:00. So you can only do that in a perfect world. I always set the Parking Brake so I was unable to rotate the tire to get it at noon straight up. Just sayin'.

Of course. Nothing is where it’s suppose to be. But yes 1:00 or 10:00.
Next. The owners with wheel locks. Be sure the key is where it should be. And consider a spare key. I usually take the wheel locks off and replace with OEM bolts. For myself the locks are a hassle and poor sense of security. Have a friend that some POS broke into the car to get the wheel lock key.. ended ended up with a broken window and 4 wheels gone.
