Default Chassis Plugs

I searched the threads and couldn't find anything so I figured I'd ask.

I picked up my 450h+ on Good Friday. Saturday morning I was nosing around the car and found 2 plastic bags in the glovebox. I took them out to see what they were and in each bag was 2 black plastic/rubber oblong plugs. I read the words on the bags and it said they were to be inserted into the chassis PRIOR to delivery to customer.

So I called, texted and now emailed my salesman about it. I have yet to get an answer. I live in central west Florida roughly 5 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. I'm not sure but I can only guess there is quite a bit of salt in our air. This causes me to worry a bit.

Am I the only one who has stumbled on this type of miss during the PDI or is this normal? Should they be installed?

Yes, they should be. There is a YouTube video by CarCareNut where he goes over what happens during an initial vehicle. prep. One of the things he mentioned was exactly that, look in the glove box to see if they forgot to install the body plugs.

@Droid13 Good to know. What pisses me off is the salesman saw them in the glovebox and didn't even blink. He had to have known what they were. I received a response from the salesman and he has requested the Service Manager reach out to me about them. So I'm waiting.

It’s a new car, and a Lexus at that. You don’t have to wait for a reply. Take it into the dealership and tell them to put it on. This is something they missed during PDI that is supposed to be done. If you get any sort of hesitation or complaints from the salesman or service, just go to the general sales manager or service manager.

@LilyTiger Your 100% correct. In a perfect world, I would.

The dealer I purchased from is 2.5 hour drive one-way. The closest Lexus dealer to me is in Tampa. That is a 1.5 hour drive one-way. I hesitate to see if they put them in and these are spares or what before I drive all that distance to put 4 plugs in.

Ohhh I gotcha. Yep, your idea makes much more sense then lol. In that case, I hope it is something they purposely left out. Not sure how far you’ll get with this idea, or if it’s even possible, but you could ask and see if they’ll send a tech out to you (or at least meet you halfway) to put these in, if it’s not something they can coach you through on the phone. 3 hours round-trip is a very long time and a lot of miles to put on a new car for something that’s completely their fault.

If I recall when looking underneath my car, the rear body plugs are really easy to get to, about 1ft in front of rear tire and about 8 inches in from the side. If you don't mind laying down beside the car, each rear body plug can be installed in about 15 seconds. The front ones I think are underneath one of the covering panels, a bit more work to get to. But if so, they are already semi-protected so I would not be too worried if it takes you a bit to get back to the dealer to get the front ones done. Not worth the time for a special trip UNLESS its really bothering you.

By any chance is there a Toyota dealer closer to you? They should be able to do it. At least where I’m at there’s plenty more Toyota dealers than Lexus.
