With the Rav4 Adventure being rated for 3500, I saw a thread it has the same body as the 2016 NX. There is another thread on here that talked about the only difference being springs. I guess my question is, does anyone know for certain why ours is stuck at 2,000 and the RAV4 goes up to 3,500.
I would be looking at towing about 2500 would be idea for what I need.
I believe the RAV4 adventure has an upgrade radiator and a transmission fluid cooler.
So does an nx with the tow package. I have been towing 2300-2400lbs with my nx with tow package for 10's of thousands of miles now without any issue. You will have to install air bag spring helpers to keep the rear end from sagging though, as 2500lbs = 325-375lb tongue weight. Mine is 325lbs. The tow rating is an arbitrary rating that the manufacture puts on the car, there are no real rules to the lower limit of that number only the higher limit. The nx is rated to 2000 according to the sae j2807 spec, so that means that it can easily pass that test while towing 2000lbs. I have gone through up the continental divide towing and I can tell you the car has no issues with power or ability. I did tons of research on this and the only thing I could see different in the rav4 "adventure" were different springs, which our nx already has stiffer springs than the standard rav4. People will tell you, that you have to follow the manufacturer rating, but common sense and research makes me confident in what I'm towing, especially after installing the firestone coil rite helper airbags (for rav4). My camper has brakes on it, i would feel comfortable towing up to 2500 but too much more than this and I would start looking into better brakes imho.
You will also be about the GCVW rating of the car and towed vehicle, but if you also look at the rav4 adventure ratings for this they were substantially increased. I also went line by line through part numbers for the rear suspension in the rav4 adventure and I didn't see any special physical parts that were unique to the rav4 other than the springs.
I am looking at a boat dry weight with trailer is 2396 but with gas and stuff would be over 2500 lbs maybe like 2600 - 2700. Do you think this is in the doable category?
I am curious what happened if you have 4 passengers and towing 2000 lb. Wouldn’t this be the same as towing 2500 lb (roughly) and no passengers?
No, the gcvw (gross combined vehicle weight (trailer and car) has its own rating, as well as the weight of the car alone and the weight on each rear axle driver and passenger. With 4 people in the car you would run into younger weight issues.

No problem, especially if the tongue weight isn't too high and the car is empty and you aren't going thousands of miles. Also take into account how tall the boat is, the more air resistance the harder to tow. The car has plenty of power though your gas mileage would supper slot. In the southwest where it's very windy I was sometimes getting 7-8mpg going against a very strong headwind, but the car did it fine. Tongue weight is the weakest point, airbags and a weight distribution hitch would take care of that.
Awesome. I have the juicebox so I think I am actually almost 100HP higher than the RAV4 adventure. I'd be towing like 20 - 40 minutes from my house a few times a month in the summer.

I have the jb4 as well, although the car towed fine without it too. I have put close to 20k miles towing the 2300lb scamp 13 and no issues.
I see you're in Illinois I'm up in WI. Just really in the summer months going to some lakes here. Next item is figuring out if the boat will fit in one of my garage bays...

I also had a tight parking space issue, but got used to it and it works for now, wish I had a tad more space though.
