Although I have Carplay in my NX, the nerd in me wanted to try out the Car Thing. It actually is cool for $80 and works via bluetooth or Carplay in case others out there are looking for something like this. It comes with a CD player mount which is what I used but also has a vent mount and a sticky mount that you could put anywhere.

 

I am trying to understand how your setup works. If you're connected to carplay than NX bluetooth will be disabled. So is your car thing connect to your Iphone than output audio through carplay?
or you just use car thing as a backup player if your not using carplay? if that's the case I would just buy a wireless carplay dongle.

 

Thank you for sharing, I also orderd it and I don't have carplay so hope it fills the need for carplay at least for music. I will post pics once I install it.

 

I hook my phone up to utilize CarPlay, but I keep Waze up on the cars screen full screen (the windowed layout that allows for Spotify and Waze on the screen at the same time I am not a fan of) so having a dedicated player option and being able to just leave my phone in the center console works for me. In my setup it still plays Spotify through CarPlay but the Car Thing allows you to browse playlists etc without having to use my phone. They fully support the Car Thing through bluetooth though so your phone would connect and play through bluetooth and you just use the Car Thing as the interface for Spotify.
