I just installed the rear mudguards on my 2021 Lexus NX300. The were are no installation instructions, but installing them was easy as I had installed mudguards on my Highlander in the past. Only question is what are the clear appliqués included with the kit for?
Thanks for any help in this.
Tony
I asked the same question when I was installing the mudguards on my wife's NX- was able to get some feedback that they for placing on the paint where the mudguard "rubs". I initially did not put them on and I started seeing some blemishes on the paint at that place - ended up taking the mudguards back off and reinstalling the clear protection film.

It's amazing no instructions are included when a customer buys the item from the dealer, rather than by the service department for installation. I called the parts department and they told me no instructions are available, even on the internet. I followed your advice and placed the clear appliqué on the painted body where the mudguard rests against.

Thanks again and safe driving!

You should have received instructions, although they don't mention the paint protection film, its pretty easy to figure out where it should go once you line up the mudguards with the car.
Thanks for posting these instructions. I’m picking up the mudguards from my dealer parts dept tomorrow. Bit of a rigamarole to get the guards. Parts said at first they weren’t available for the ‘21 NX. Had to kick and scream a bit, and find the part numbers myself online. Installation looks simple enough.
So I purchased the mudguard kit from my dealer. I thought it was a bit overpriced, and they gave me a bit of a runaround. It’s not available for 2021s, then it is, then it’s not, then it’s on back order, then it magically appears in stock. I think the parts department is just a mess. I go to pick it up and they’re a little surprised - they don’t quite seem to know how to handle a customer who just wants the parts, who doesn’t want them installed by service. Just weird because everything else about this dealer was top notch when I purchased the car last week. Net-net the parts guy finally figures it out - $180 on my Amex and I’m outta there.
Anyway — there was no hardware in the box. Just the guards themselves. I couldn’t bear to go back to the dealer. But I was grateful that the instructions were posted here, with the parts list. I was able to order the M5 screws and clips from Amazon for another $13. I know: I should have gone back, but I just couldn’t!
I’ll post pics of my installation when I’m done! Thanks!
Ouch, I paid $80 for mine through online dealer. $180 and no screws, I would be a bit upset lol.
Yeah. I could have been smarter. But I was eager and annoyed at the dealer parts department, and just wanted to be done with it. No screws kind of took the cake!
Here are a few photos of the mudguard installation on my new 2021 NX300. It was a fairly simple procedure thanks to the instructions posted here by gompka. I did not lift the car or remove the wheels. The fronts went on easily. Small hiccup on the rear when I wasn’t sure how to drill out the tiny dimple in the existing plastic moulding without removing the wheel, until I realized I could first remove the old pop clips (which are discarded anyway) and existing screw, and then bend the moulding outward just enough to drill into the dimple. You’re only drilling through a 1/8 inch thick piece of plastic, to create a hole that is immediately covered by a panel clip. Easy peasy. The guards install with new pop clips, existing screws, and new panel clips/screw pairs. I also included a close up photo of the clear plastic film installed to protect the paint. Not a great photo. Im not sure how helpful this film will be in this use (it’s the same kind of film you can have installed on the front of car hoods to protect from road debris; I think it’s used to protect military aircraft too. Just seems silly in this application
Overall an easy install. Glad I added these to protect my paint against road salt and sand spray during the harsh Boston winters.
