Default Steering Power Low

Hello,

I just received a "Steering Power Low" warning on my 2015 Lexus NX 200t. Has anyone ever experienced this?

Could be time for a new battery, perhaps?

Either way, have you tried asking in the NX forums?

Potentially silly question incoming. Why would an NX need power steering fluid? Are you saying that it has hydraulic-assisted (whether fully or partially) steering?

The NX I drove 2 years ago felt like it had power steering which requires proper fluid & level to operate. Maybe it leaks.

I guess it could have electric steering if it's a new one

Per Edmunds, it's electric power steering. https://www.edmunds.com/lexus/nx-200...eatures-specs/

I just received this same notification, do you remember how you got it fixed?

Did this fault post on engine start or right after?

If yes, then my first suspect would be a weak battery, as it would indicate to me that the power steering computer may not be receiving sufficient battery voltage during start.

It's right after. One message says battery charging malfunction and the next says "Engine stopped steering power low". Now the engine is struggling to start and when it started the engine stopped and the same message come up

With that in mind you know the power steering issue is just a symptom of the real problem, which is likely either your battery or alternator (or both).

Have them both checked out at a local auto parts store. If your battery is over 3 or 4 years old, you might consider replacing it anyway.
