Is there a blatter in the Power Steering Reservoir if so i may have punched a hole in it. I was trying to take some fluid out with a needle type baster and felt some presser so i pushed a little harder and think i punctured it. Maybe?

 

What do you mean by "blatter"? A baffle?

I've never heard of a bladder inside of a power steering reservoir.

 

Maybe i'm just being paranoid thinking i punched thru something. It just felt like. So i guess i'm ok

 

How deep did you go? Did the needle poke out the bottom right through a hose?

 

No nothing leaking. Thanks for the posts. I feel safe now that i know nothing happened. Buy the way i sucked out the reservoir and refill it and did not hold much seeing the level was at full. Drained it again then saw it was filled with very little fluid. Realized the reservoir was stained. So it was always full by looking at the tank.So when they get low u will not know it. I used a large allen wrench and scraped the side now i can see the level. Hope this helps others.

 

There might be a screen at the bottom of the reservoir you punches through but as someone mentioned earlier as long as you didn't puncture the reservoir itself or a hose it shouldn't leak. I would monitor that area after driving it a few miles just to make sure.

 

what are you using for power steering fluid? I flushed my reservoir out and the new fluid cleaned the inside of the reservoir out. mine was stained also. it was suggested for me to use Mobil one atf fluid for GM cars. I think I used 3 bottles before the fluid I was taking out looked like the fluid I was putting back in. seems fine now.

 

This is what I use for all my cars power steering fluid. I normally suck the reservoir dry and top it off with Mobil 1 ATF synthetic. And repeat every week until I've used one bottle.

 

I used Shell Spirax S3 ATF MD3. I did it twice and plane on doing more until the bottle is gone.

 

Redline syn power steering fluid is used in mine.

 

So you guys have not only 'cleaned' the reservoir with ATF, but left ATF in there as PS fluid?

I ask because at 140k, I have the same 'stain' problem on the sides of my reservoir, and want to clean it, and also have never changed the PS fluid ever.

 

our p/s systems require ATF.do not put p/s fluid in there.
