Kick Sensor+Hitch=Bad?
Hey all,
My wife recently got a 2018 NX with kick sensor that she special ordered. While we were waiting for the car to arrive (FOUR MONTHS), I ordered a CURT after market hitch to install, but when we got the car, our salesperson, unprompted told us that the kick sensor wouldn't work with a Lexus hitch . I assumed that if it didn't work with the OEM one that the CURT hitch wouldn't work as well and and returned it to Amazon.
However, it got me thinking that it may have been hearsay. Can anyone confirm that the combo of the two doesn't work? (The Lexus or CURT hitch) Or even better, a workaround?
Thanks!

Just went thru all this with good results.
Here is what I did:
Got the correct hitch from etrailer (Drawtite) but befor I installed it I purchased the shorter kick sensor.
The directions were kind of vague, but I figured out how to replace the longer one without removing the back bumper.
So I installed the sensor, then the hitch and the door works fine.
Then I had Uhaul install the wiring. $300. Worth it in my opinion.
One thing I had to correct was that Uhaul installed a metal plate on the left hand side to hold the trailer connector. It messed up the
kick sensor so I had to relocate the plate and connector to the right hand side of the hitch. Easy.
So now I’m all set to go.
Hope this helps.

Dave,
Holy wow, I totally forgot that I even posted this! Great solution. We ended up not adding a hitch to our Lexus as life gets in the way and haven't needed a bicycle rack in the last few years. But now that you've solved the problem, I'll think about revisiting adding a hitch. Thanks for your response and solution!

I have a 2021 NX and had U-Haul install a Curt hitch to be used for my bike rack. It works just fine. Salesperson? Did he really know or something else.
Just one bit of caution is that if you are towing something or have a bike rack you have have to shut off the kick to open feature when it is in use. Otherwise it poses no issue at all. I have been using it for 3 years now without and issue.
